Staggering growth in India’s Defence Production
A giant leap has taken place in the indigenous defence production in the FY 2025-26 by staggering increase in the defence production from ₹ 1.54 lakh crore to ₹ 1.78 lakh crore, registering a net increase of 15.6% over the previous fiscal year.
With the record increase in the indigenous production a huge momentum has been achieved in India’s defence production and marching towards #AatmanirbharBharat.
Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has lauded the efforts of Department of Defence Production and all stakeholders involved in the defence production of the country. Raksha Mantri has called for continued acceleration in the defence production sector with increased private sector participation and growing export capabilities.

To advance India’s journey towards Aatmanirbharta in defence production, the Defence MSME Conclave was held on 18 September 2026 in Vadodara, Gujarat, under the theme ‘Defence MSMEs: Catalysts for Aatmanirbharta and Global Competitiveness.’
Organised by the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, in association with Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (#SIDM) and supported by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (#HAL), the conclave brought together representatives from DDP, Government of Gujarat, DIO, DoS, DGQA, SIDBI, HAL and DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The deliberations focused on MSME schemes, policies and purchase preferences, supply chain resilience, quality assurance, innovation and R&D opportunities through iDEX, GeM procurement, financing schemes and institutional support, reaffirming the collective commitment to building a robust and globally competitive defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), in association with DGQA, successfully organised the first chapter of the quarterly Defence Industry Interactive Dialogue on 17 September 2026, bringing together senior DGQA officials and around 200 defence industry participants, including Tier-1 firms, mid-size companies, MSMEs and startups.
In his special address, Shri N. Manoharan, DG, DGQA, outlined key #DGQA initiatives to improve Ease of Doing Business, enhance information availability on the DGQA portal, green channel certification, simplification of self-certification, clarity in QA responsibilities, ATP-related guidance, concurrent inspection practices, and progress on DTIS.
Mr. Arun T. Ramchandani, President, SIDM, thanked DGQA for launching the dialogue and highlighted its central role in India’s defence quality assurance framework.

In a milestone towards promoting indigenous design, development and manufacturing in the aerospace and defence sectors, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) handed over two Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) Twin Seater Trainers & three HTT 40 Basic Trainers to the Indian Air Force (IAF), and four Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited (PHL) in the presence of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Minister of Civil Aviation Shri K Rammohan Naidu in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 18 September 2026.
In his address, Raksha Mantri described the handing over as a significant milestone in the nation’s progress towards indigenous aerospace capability, technological self-confidence and self-reliance. He stressed the need to advance systematically in the aerospace sector.
Terming R&D as a crucial priority area, Raksha Mantri urged young scientists, engineers, designers, test pilots, and technicians to take it as a challenge to create technologies that do not exist today. He called upon them to develop capabilities that secure a leading position for India in the global aerospace technology landscape over the coming decade.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Civil Aviation Shri K Rammohan Naidu said that the certification and induction of the Dhruv NG into civil operations marked an important milestone for India's indigenous civil aviation ecosystem. He termed it as a reflection of the growing capability of Indian industry to develop and support advanced aerospace platforms for commercial applications.
The event highlighted India's expanding capabilities to design, develop, and manufacture advanced defence and aviation platforms under the Aatmanirbharata initiative. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh; Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Sanjeev Kumar; and Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation Shri Samir Kumar Sinha also attended the event.

Highlighting the spirit of “Aatmanirbharta ki Jyoti”, he underscored the vital role of startups, innovators, academia and industry in strengthening India’s defence ecosystem and building the defence capabilities of tomorrow.
Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Sanjeev Kumar, visited BEL, Bengaluru on 17 September 2026, to review the Quarterly Progress of BEL on the execution of major projects and new policy initiatives. BEL also showcased its in-house developed products, such as Weapon Locating Radar, SASTRA, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary (DP) stressed upon the importance of timely delivery of equipment to Armed forces. He also encouraged engineers of BEL to focus on indigenisation and channelise concerted efforts towards the design and development of in-house products using new technologies.
During his visit, he laid the foundation stone for “ANANTA”, a Centre for Deep Tech, at CRL-Bengaluru and also inaugurated “SANKHYA”, the High Performance Computing & Quantum Experience Centre at BEL’s Incubation Centre, Bengaluru. On this occasion, Secretary (DP) also released BEL’s Quantum Policy. He was accompanied by Ms Meera Mohanty, JS (P&C), DDP and other senior officers of DDP.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh unveiled key policy initiatives during ‘VIMARSH’, a DRDO-Industry Synergy Meet, centered on the theme ‘Varta se Vikas’, in New Delhi on 15 September 2026. The initiatives include a comprehensive framework to lower technical and financial entry barriers for MSMEs & deep-tech start-ups, offering direct funding, incubation support and dedicated access to DRDO testing facilities.
The flagship event was attended by over 250 defence industry leaders, industry chamber representatives, senior civil and military officials and senior DRDO scientists. Secretary, DPIIT also participated in the meet.
In his address, Raksha Mantri highlighted that the new policy initiatives focus on promoting industry-led R&D; providing funding and mentorship to start-ups and MSMEs; fostering academia-industry collaboration; and encouraging investment in futuristic technologies such as AI, quantum computing, hypersonics, and directed energy.
Raksha Mantri underlined that the goal of #ViksitBharat is not merely to build an economically strong nation, but to also make it technologically self-reliant, socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and strategically secure.
Speaking on the occasion, Defence Secretary and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh said VIMARSH 2026 has been strategically designed to align cutting-edge commercial innovation with national defence readiness and systematically integrate private sector capabilities into the core of the defence ecosystem.

🇮🇳 Shaping India’s Defence Capabilities for Viksit Bharat 2047
Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Sanjeev Kumar, IAS, addressed the Combined Operational Review and Evaluation (CORE) Programme today at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, highlighting strategic pathways for capability and capacity development towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
He emphasised that Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India will remain the foundation of this transformation, driven by the collective strength of DPSUs, private industry, MSMEs, start-ups, innovators and academia.
Highlighting initiatives including #iDEX, SRIJAN, Defence Industrial Corridors, FDI reforms and defence R&D, he underscored the need for sustained investment in R&D, agile procurement, skilled human capital, competitive industry and deeper civil–military–industry–academia partnerships.
The Secretary (DP) stressed that a strong and self-reliant defence ecosystem will strengthen strategic autonomy and military preparedness, while driving innovation, advanced manufacturing, exports and technological leadership.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, officially launched the Operational Guidelines for DILRMP 3.0.
During the launch, he struck a chord with everyone, reminding us that land isn't just a piece of soil it’s the pride of our farmers and a deeply emotional part of our generational heritage.
Hon’ble MoS Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani added a great technical perspective, noting that we are officially moving past just scanning paper documents. We are now focusing on true interoperability—making sure all our state and national digital systems actually talk to each other seamlessly.
Secretary (DoLR), Shri Narendra Bhooshan, rounded it out by highlighting that this phase is all about building a strong, unified digital foundation (Digital Public Infrastructure) for land administration across the country.
What is the real purpose of DILRMP 3.0?It’s simple: to make land governance transparent, citizen-friendly, and incredibly easy to access. It’s about saving people time and ending the endless rounds to government offices.
Two major highlights from the new guidelines really stand out:
The Bharat Land Stack: This will link all land records, registrations, and maps into one unified platform.
Registration Seva Kendras: We all know how Passport Seva Kendras completely transformed how we get passports. Now, high-footfall Sub-Registrar Offices are going to be modernized into Registration Seva Kendras to make property registration just as smooth and hassle-free for buyers and sellers.
This is a huge leap forward for everyday ease of living!

Rajnath Singh Concludes Successful Visit to Sri Lanka
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has successfully concluded his landmark three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from 8th to 10th September 2026, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the traditionally strong and friendly bilateral relationship, including a strong maritime & defence partnership.
During his maiden visit, Raksha Mantri highlighted India’s rapid economic transformation and the country’s growing capabilities. He asserted that India’s defence exports have risen from around ₹600 crore 12 years ago to an all-time high of approximately ₹39,000 crore, reflecting the country’s expanding capabilities and its continuing journey towards a stronger and Aatmanirbhar defence sector.
In his engagements with the Sri Lankan leadership and defence establishment, Shri Rajnath Singh emphasised that India and Sri Lanka, as close maritime partners, are well positioned to jointly safeguard peace, security & stability across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). He called for enhanced cooperation in maritime security, capacity building, joint exercises and emerging areas of cooperation.
During the visit, Raksha Mantri called on the President of Sri Lanka Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and discussed the entire gamut of mutual relations and deep civilisational ties between the nations.
