@JackMac@richdaddycarter What about PPG, APG, RPG, minutes per game, games played, FG% and add in the context that PG turns 37 this year….does that change anything or is that irrelevant information?
@SomeJudge99@sirm661@getnickwright Definitely a fair point. Of course there’s a downstream impact which is what needs to be avoided or traced back to. I am sure in a few months, some 90s player is gonna cry on Youtube on how physical the league used to be but today, they are complaining about the foul.
@SomeJudge99@sirm661@getnickwright I don’t deny that calls can be more consistent. I’m just saying any time there’s a foul on this scale in any sort of major situation, respond the same. Media need to be assertive of what level of NBA physicality they want to shut down all podcast discussions about today vs 90s
@sirm661@getnickwright I understand what you’re saying. All I’m saying is if we spend hours upon hours on TV shows talking about Wemby having aggressive/violent instances, there better not be soft league podcast talks when the media doesn’t let stuff slide. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.
@SomeJudge99@getnickwright I hear the calling the game fairly idea but that’s not what I’m getting at. I’m more so directing this at the media tearing down the walls on a singular aggressive play, while large groups of people want more violence because the league has gone soft”soft”
@sirm661@getnickwright I’m not necessarily concerned with the calls going either way. I’m just saying in this isolated scenario, the media is going bonkers on this being an unreasonable/physical play. Either we somewhat let plays like this slide to appease the large group of people saying
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul I understand your point. I’m just saying my current view is that using traditional positional definitions on modern NBA players no longer defines the general actions of that player and the style range within position is the widest it’s ever been, no longer describing players.
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul I disagree. The extreme range of skills of style of play makes it difficult to classify players using traditional methods. For example it is very difficult to throw Wemby, Jokic, and Shaq in the same bucket. Outside of rebounding, they are all dramatically different players.
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul Sure but if I’m taking your original idea at face value of players defending certain positions/areas = their position, then Caruso would be a PF/C in those games. Problem is the NBA is becoming more and more “positionless” creating an extreme amount of exceptions.
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul But he was guarding Wemby in the post for most of the game given Wemby recognizing the mismatch. You used the idea of Jokic not defending on the perimeter. For the most part, Caruso was not defending the perimeter in those two games. So is it fair to say he’s a PF/C there?
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul So if position is a criteria being considered for All NBA teams like this guy is enforcing. Where would Alex Caruso be for position voting? Just in a hypothetical world where he’s in contention?
@TheBMax@_utilitysports@varietypaul Alex Caruso was the primary defender on Wemby in games 1 and 2 of this series. I may be misunderstanding your general claim but if defending specific areas is an assignment for position, what position was Alex Caruso in those games?
@TermineRadio To add to that, given that you enforcing a rule that is no longer in scope, what is stopping other voters from creating non-agreed upon rules for their own teams? As a simple example, only voting for players who average 20pts or more.
@TermineRadio Care to explain why you’re taking positions into account when the CBA defines All NBA teams as positionless? Is creating your own rules and conditions something you would define as integrity?
All-NBA teams will be positionless in the new collective bargaining agreement, with a 65-game minimum to be eligible for selection, sources tell me and @MikeVorkunov.
“I’m quite confident we were selling high. Obviously time will tell… Teams came to us with aggressive offers for him.”
