@Vermanubis This shot in and of itself I couldn't immediately tell if we were canopy or roots, probably just as a result of the palette and not having the context. The second I saw the video of the platforming though I got canopy from it!

@Vermanubis I think I want to say Ori is also good like this but I think that's just because there's less map complexity to begin with and most areas aren't interconnected. Ender Lilies I know also has sone points where maps feel simple to navigate (the village) but others feel maze-like
@Vermanubis In terms of sheer mental mapping and the ability to know how to get from point A to B I'd point at HK (generally more straightforward plus adjacent rooms to new biomes containing visual aspects of them helps orient you more naturally)
@Vermanubis The favourite maps I've seen (and made) tend to be based off some real world navigational aspect, and it's something CV in particular really excels at. Want a towers area? Long, thin vertical stretches of long rooms immediately give that identity and memorability!
