Update – The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating the tragic death of Alexander Joseph Solma, a 32-year-old man with high-functioning autism who was reported missing earlier today.
Mr. Solma was last seen on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at approximately 4:00 pm near his residence in the 900 block of SW Aurelia Ave. He is known to wander and often walks along the C-23 canal banks.
The Solma family relocated to Port St. Lucie two years ago from New York. The family noted Mr. Solma has left the residence prior; however, typically not longer than 6-8 hours. Their concerns grew when Solma's cellphone was found at the residence as well as the length of time he was gone. The family indicated they believed the time to report an individual missing was 72 hours as they moved from New York to Florida. They were under the impression Florida has the same reporting standard; however, this is inaccurate as there is zero wait time required in either state.
Tragically, just before 11:00 am this morning, an adult male matching the description of Mr. Solma was located in the 600 block of SW Belmont Circle. The individual was deceased upon discovery.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Alexander Solma during this incredibly difficult time and we are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent death. We also urge community members to remember that there is no waiting period to report a missing person, especially when they are considered endangered.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Solma between Wednesday evening and Friday morning is urged to contact the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5000 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.
