A new day for Oakley.

As he continues to recover from his surgery, and learn that humans can be kind, Oakley is showing us so much too. He’s showing us that he is resilient, he is loving, and he deserves so much more than what he’s been given.

Please consider making a donation to our lifesaving mission and helping more animals like him. ❤️

On the day we found Oakley, it was clear that he had been alone and in the dark for some time.

There were heavy cobwebs and debris across the door that our officers opened.

And inside wasn't any better. There was this beautiful dog, blind and alone...just waiting for help.

It arrived in the form of our officers.

The cobwebs told our officers how long it had been.

When they opened the door to the shelter area where Oakley was kept, heavy cobwebs and debris hung across the doorway, a sign that no one had come through it in a very long time.

Just this week, our surgical team removed his right eye along with the mass. It will no longer cause him pain, though, of course, it does not change his vision.

Through all of it, Oakley has been gentle and sweet. He can’t see the people around him, but he’s learning that the hands reaching for him are kind ones.

Oakley spent far too long alone. Now he’s safe, he’s healing, and he’s ready to find a family who will help him learn his way around a real home.

Oakley was rescued that day along with two other dogs, four kittens, and six cats. The kittens were suffering from upper respiratory infections, their eyes crusted with discharge.

When our veterinary team examined Oakley, along with the mass on his right eyelid, they found painful infections in both ears and nails grown long from neglect. Our team got to work right away. His ears were cleaned and treated, and he was receiving drops to keep his eyes comfortable.

It was at that property where our officers found Oakley alone in a chain-link kennel.

The kennel floor was covered in a buildup of feces and debris. His only water came from a 5-gallon bucket, so dark and murky you couldn’t see through it. And one of his eyes had a growth on it.

Imagine what he must have felt - unable to see, confined to the same space alone day after day, with no idea where you are or whether anyone is coming back for you.

Rex is one happy guy.

His tail is always wagging, and with a face like his, we really thought he’d be scooped up by now. This handsome Chocolate Lab would love to find a home where he can be the only dog and get spoiled with all your love.

We’d love to see Rex finally get his turn. Come meet him today.

Sweet Tillie girl. Oh how we love you.

After living life in a home for 11 years, this super senior found herself back at the shelter. No doubt she was confused, scared and feeling alone.

But the dedication of the @pspca is lifelong. We’ve got you.

The call came from the city's open intake shelter: a 16-year-old dog had been surrendered for owner-requested euthanasia. When the dog was scanned for a chip, it came back to us.

Her name was Matilda.

Matilda has already given one family 11 years. Now we’re looking for someone who will give her the same promise…but this time forever.

This $5 Friday, will you help us care for Matilda while she waits for her forever family?
