A big honor for a Baltimore educator. Band director and music teacher Dr. Otis Eldridge has been named Baltimore City Public Schools’ 2026 Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Eldridge teaches at Hamilton Elementary/Middle School and is a proud graduate of Baltimore City Public Schools. A three-time graduate of Morgan State University, he has spent more than a decade inspiring students through music education and arts integration.
The award was presented during a surprise announcement at the school. As Teacher of the Year, Dr. Eldridge will go on to compete for Maryland State Teacher of the Year and could advance to the national level.

A Havre de Grace teen is turning her Sweet 16 into something meaningful by swapping birthday gifts for giving back.
Edgewood High School sophomore Merantha “Mira” Hunt launched “Sweet 16 for Success,” a fundraiser benefiting Dress for Success Greater Baltimore, which helps women prepare for job interviews and enter or reenter the workforce.
What started with a $1,000 goal has already surpassed expectations, raising more than $1,000 ahead of her May 8 birthday celebration and she is now aiming even higher.
