@TheMuppetPastor “Constantine, a Roman Governor, decided what christian means to me 300 years after christ ascended and therefore you arent it”
ok cool- is it in the bible?
“well no not really but its in the creed that Constantine approved so yea it must be true”
yea thats incoherent. im not going to try to guess at what you mean by any of that.
Hes the only begotten Son of God. Hes called the son of God 68 times.
He doesnt call himself God once nor does God call christ God once.
verses youve quoted are sloppy work. Bad translations or overt twisting of scripture. Study up. Compare translations.
@voosiki Wow I never saw Prov 8 like that… verse 22 possessed can be translated ‘create’
this would be in concert with Colossians 1:15 where christ is the firstborn of all created beings.
God created christ first. Then the universe through him? (1 cor 8:6)
“christ is the Son of God” “But God and his Son are the same age”. “That age is eternal”. “The Father is eternally begetting the son”. “Like at all moments forever the son is coming out of the Father”
Ok, cool show me this in scripture?
“just dont think about it too much, its a mystery”
You have some scriptural problems to solve then friend.
Jesus says he is the son of God. And he says God is his God.
So God has a God??
John 20:17 — “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
Matt 16:15-16– He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (christ confirms).
Jesus making the same I AM statement that God made in Exodus doesnt necessitate him being God. Christ being Gods son also fits just fine. Fathers and sons share names.
colossians 1:15
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature;”
christ was made first.
the Father is the eternal, preeminent being. First thing he creates/begets is his Son. Then through his son, the Father creates all things (universe, spiritual realm etc)
1 Corinthians 8:6 (ESV):
“yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.”
this is why Jesus can say before Abraham was, I AM. He was the firstborn of all created things.
Sons were real in the Jewish world. Fathers definitely had sons and the word son meant then what it means now. Jesus really was formed in Marys womb. His biological father really was God. He really was Gods only begotten son. They were one in nature/essence the same way a human father and son share a nature or essence. he was also his actual son. Both of those things can be true.
Also once you become a father yourself you learn unequivocally that its a greater loss/sacrifice to have to sacrifice your own son than it would be to die yourself.
Jesus is the son of God, perfectly expressing/manifesting his Father God to us. This doesnt diminish the closeness or humility of God by saying he sent his son. If anything it amplifies it. He So loved the world that he sent his only begotten son…
@aztjk35@voosiki The son is the scepter of righteousness in this verse. This is a direct quote of Psalms but the part specifically referring to the Son is the “scepter of righteousness”
@D_anterror@TaylorRMarshall a non denominational christian is simply someone that subscribes to the biblical definition of christianity and doesnt feel the need to further delineate
What trinitarian translation is this?? It doesnt say God subjected himself. heres what it says
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. phil 2:5-8
this verse is drawing on an orientalism from that time that its readers would have understood.
A son was considered an heir while a servant was not. The son and the family servants would often do the same work but only the son was equal with the father in terms of in line to inherit all that was his. Christ did not use his position as the son of God to Lord over those he came to save, instead he lowered himself to their same status (servant) so that he would be able to graft them in as heirs also. Its a beautiful passage but it is not a God claim over christ. Its a son of God claim.
compare to Philipians 2:22
also note John 5:18 : they wanted to stone jesus because he said his Father was God- they knew that meant he was claiming to be equal with God. Sons were considered equal with their father as heirs.
@rednecknerd123@FiredUpCoug yea man. just trying to figure life out . dont care what anyone calls me or where i fit or dont fit- thats all meaningless to me
@rednecknerd123@FiredUpCoug well you seem convinced that being a kind helpful person is a good thing, and however you ended up making that conclusion, im glad you did. Id have a beer with you anytime.
1 Corinthians 15:27-28
“For ‘God has put all things in subjection under his feet.’ But when it says, ‘all things are put in subjection,’ it is plain that he (God) is excepted who put all things in subjection under him (Christ). When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.”
again here is clear preeminence of the Father. He Grants the son authority. the son does not possess it intrinsically. He needs to be given it. The trinity claims the son has is intrinsically in equal measure to his Father and that isnt scriptural. I know this because i can read.
No i think christ is divine. However I think within the divine there should be a necessary heirarchy. God the Father is the preeminent being. He deserves his own title and respect. Christ is his Son who is my Lord and Master but he, too, answers to his Father. The trinity blurs these lines saying they are co-equal and that simply isnt scripturally substantiated.
Jesus himself says his father is greater than him. He also calls him
his God. How can God have a God?
Jesus is the divine son of God. The firstborn of all created things. God is the eternal preeminent being. He created his son first and then through his son created everything else that exists.
In Philipians 2 christ is in the form of God. It doesn’t say he IS God. Theres a difference. As the son in that culture you were an heir. And while you might do same work as the servents in the family business, you as a son were an heir and were considered equal with your father. Christ didnt use his status as a son for his own selfish ambitions, but instead lowered himself to the status of a servant because those he was saving were servants and he would redeem them, too, as sons. Thats what Philipians 2 is laying out. This is not a Jesus is God claim.
@rednecknerd123@FiredUpCoug thanks- youre a helpful dude. thanks for being that way. You said X mormon, correct?- curious, where did you land in your faith?
