There is NO Head Injury Assessment (HIA) in community rugby!!
I recently watched the @benyoungs09@BBCSport documentary “How Safe is Rugby” and noted some potentially misleading comments on junior rugby concussion protocols.
A first aid leader stated: “Much like a HIA in the professional game, we follow the same guidance.”
This simply isn’t accurate and can lead to confusion.
There is NO HIA in community rugby-including juniors, amateurs, and national leagues.
🎉 Celebrating 10 Incredible Years! 🎉
Last night we were thrilled to get together to celebrate Katy’s 10-year anniversary with PT Kids! @PTKidsUK
For a decade, Katy has been making a difference as a children’s occupational therapist — helping little ones grow, thrive, and achieve milestones big and small.
Katy, thank you for your unwavering commitment and the sunshine you bring to our PT Kids family.
We’re so grateful for you — here’s to the next chapter in your incredible journey! 💛
🧠🔧 Case Managers: Seeking trusted Physios & OTs for paediatric clients with brain injuries?

We filter the world in relationship to our aim. Fail to specify the target, and everything becomes noise. 🎯🎯🎯
In physiotherapy, this couldn’t be more true. Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or aiming to improve mobility, clarity of purpose is key.
When your goals are vague—"I just want to feel better"—progress stalls.
But when your aim is clear—"I want to walk up stairs without pain" or "regain full shoulder movement"—your brain and body begin to filter for opportunities, habits, and actions that move you in that direction.
At @PTKidsUK, we don’t just treat symptoms—we help you define your target. Because once that target is clear, your path towards it becomes more focused, intentional, and effective.
Parent’s Quick Guide to Physio Terms 1️⃣
What is Muscle Tone?
Muscle tone is the constant, low-level tension in your muscles—even at rest—that helps you stay upright and ready for movement.
It’s controlled by the nervous system to keep you stable and balanced.
Everyone has muscle tone—not just those with neurological conditions—and it varies from person to person.
Good tone means enough tension to support posture, but not so much that it limits smooth, easy movement.
A neurological physiotherapist helps enhance the learning process by:
🧠🔧 Guiding Brain Rewiring: They use targeted exercises to promote neuroplasticity—helping the brain form new connections.
🕺➡️🔄 Improving Movement Patterns: They teach good movement techniques, correcting errors that the brain might otherwise learn poor patterns.
👣📡 Enhancing Feedback: They help patients become more aware of body signals (like balance, posture, and coordination), improving the brain’s ability to adjust.
💪📈 Building Confidence & Repetition: Through practice and encouragement, they ensure consistent repetition, which is key for skill retention and motor learning.
In short: they’re like brain–body coaches, speeding up and strengthening the CNS learning loop
**Goals Should Be About Impact, Not Input**
Too often, I see therapists focusing on the *input* when writing goals (e.g., “standing in a standing frame daily”)
without reflecting on the *outcome.*
What’s the *real* goal here?
What’s the functional change?
If the goal doesn’t improve a child’s life in a tangible way, then it’s not a goal—it’s just an activity.
We must focus on meaningful, measurable results.
What’s the reason WHY?!?

🧠💪 In children’s physiotherapy, what does the *R* in SMART goals stand for?
**REALISTIC** or **RELEVANT**?
I vote for **RELEVANT** — every single time.
Why? Because *"realistic"* can be a quiet limiter. Who gets to decide what's realistic for a child? For a family? For a little one learning to move in a world not built for them?
In our work, **RELEVANT** means goals that matter deeply — to the child, to their family, to their future.
So yes, SMART — but always RELEVANT.
Reasons to do passive stretching for children with cerebral palsy……and not really for stretching a muscle!!
✔️ Enhances sensory input and body awareness
✔️ Creates opportunities for bonding between child and caregiver
✔️ Acts as a daily check-in to notice subtle changes in tone, comfort, or movement
✔️ Primes the body—boosting potential for movement in other therapy activities

In paediatric physio, we celebrate inchstones — the tiny triumphs that lead to giant leaps.
Every reach, roll, or wiggle counts. Keep cheering them on! 💙💪
