@JohnWight1 Mandela broke Apartheid laws and continued to resist! Martin Luther King broke State based race laws and continued to resist, Gandhi broke British laws and continued to resist! Michelle did right in the face of wrong!
@CatharineHoey I think they are first class example of strong, principled women! I might not agree with everything they say, or advocate for, but they do convince me of their desire to act for all on the island of Ireland. Maybe a bit unfamiliar to the likes of you Kate?
Our media (and I'm in it) have a hell of a lot to answer for when it comes to the sectarian mess we're witnessing in relation to the Garvaghy Road 'stand-off'.
Platforming (the public broadcaster right up there), pumping up and legitimising certain hate-filled individuals doesn't end well.
I can think of a certain individual who has openly endorsed paramilitary killers as defenders of 'our community' and stood up for state murderers (the good guys), while making it a life's mission to lambast paramilitaries — and most people — who weren't from this person's own community (the bad guys).
That's just one point amongst the cesspit of sectarianism this person has published online. It doesn't end at sectarianism of course, throw in racism etc with endorsement of Israel's killing, ethnic cleansing and oppression of Palestinians. But I've heard journalists praise this person behind the scenes as 'smart' etc. Folk on here who see themselves as 'moderates' have also lavished praise on this individual at times, completely ignoring the dehumanising, amoral output.
This place is awash with double-standards, worst of it is those who indulge those double standards (ie rationalise unionists/loyalists marching in areas where they cause offence, when they wouldn't dream of rationalising nationalists/republicans doing the same) are seen as the sensible, moderate voices of reason here.
It's like war-mongering centrists:
"Don't vote for those far-left and far-ight lunatics. Vote for us, we're holding the centre ground. We've backed what experts call a genocide and supported the killing and oppression of millions of black and brown people around the world in defence of western democracy."
@JimGamble_INEQE Jim. You’re playing to yourself and a little bit of one audience. None of us care about what you, Jon or Roy think, feel or say. You are all part of the past that we have erased
