The 1st Battalion US Rangers, were activated on 19th June 1942 at Sunnylands Camp in Carrickfergus. Today the formation was marked with a short service and wreath laying at the memorial stone, accompanied by a Piper from the Royal Irish Pipes and Drums and Bugler from The Rifles.
