Captain #SmitMachchhar’s heroism to save 178 passengers aboard #flydubal’s Boeing 737, even as he was attacked & bloodied with an axe by his #Omani co-pilot, have been lauded around the world.

The impact of Captain Smit’s bravery carries powerful symbolism that will rub off on India globally. My @firstpost column

Lt Gen J. F. R. Jacob was more than one of India’s greatest military strategists. He was a proud Indian Jew whose life showed what true belonging looks like.

Born into Kolkata’s Baghdadi Jewish community, Jacob served India with distinction from the jungles of Burma to the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. As Chief of Staff of Eastern Command, he helped shape the campaign that brought the war to a decisive end. On 16 December 1971, he flew to Dhaka and helped secure the surrender of Pakistan’s Eastern Command.

Around 90,000 Pakistani personnel laid down their arms. Bangladesh was born.

Jacob later served as Governor of Punjab and Goa, and as Administrator of Chandigarh. He never had to choose between his Jewish identity and his Indian patriotism. India allowed him to be entirely both.

His story is one of courage, service and the enduring bond between India and the Jewish people.

Lt Gen J. F. R. Jacob: a great Indian, a proud Jew, and a hero whose legacy still speaks. Read his full story below - link in first message

Forgive me for still having an Asian Games hangover, but as I start this week, one story from the Games keeps coming back to me.

Sujeet Kalkal was 9-2 down with less than a minute & a half left.

Most of us have an inner voice that does the maths at a moment like this.

I certainly admit to having such a voice.

It assesses the odds and tells us when the rational thing is to accept defeat.

Sujeet clearly has another voice. One that says: Not yet.

He kept going. 9-2 became 10-9. And an Asian Games gold.

The lesson goes well beyond the wrestling mat.

When I look back, I realise that some of my key successes in business came when I listened to my other voice that fought the rational one and simply refused to throw in the towel.

There are times to listen to reason. And there are times to tell it to wait.

It ain’t over till it’s over.

Texas-based Nick Dearman has left viewers amazed with his rapid, rhythmic recitation of the sacred Hindu hymn, maintaining the same pace and focus till the very end. For many, it wasn't just the speed, it was the devotion. ❤️🚩

Hearty congratulations to Pranavi Sharath Urs, the 23-year-old golfer from Mysuru, Karnataka, on becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win Gold at the Asian Games!

At this young age, your achievement will inspire many more young athletes to take up golf and strengthen India’s presence in the sport.

Keep going, Pranavi. Many more wins to come!
