Accuse your enemy of what you are doing. It's the oldest trick in the authoritarian playbook and Donald Trump didn't invent it. He was taught.
In the 1970s a younger Trump met Roy Cohn. The lawyer who helped Joseph McCarthy destroy lives during the red scare. Cohn's rules were simple:
1. Never apologize
2. Never admit wrongdoing
3. If someone accuses you, hit back 10x harder.
When the Federal Government sued Trump for racial discrimination in his housing, Cohn told him to deny it all and countersue. it worked.
Roger Stone refined the weapons, his motto? admit nothing. deny everything. launch a counterattack.
Roger Ailes built the delivery system. He was the future innovator of Fox news. A propaganda machine dressed up as journalism. Broadcasting fear and division to millions of living rooms every night.
So, when Trump screams rigged election, he's projecting. When he calls people corrupt, he's confessing. When he shouts witch hunt, he's already building the pyre.
This technique has a name, "accusation in a mirror." Accuse your victims of exactly what you plan to do to them. It was perfected by authoritarian regimes of the 20th century. It's been used to justify wars, silence dissent and consolidate power.
and It's being used right now from the highest office in the country.
Shame on this government for passing this bill! It falls to the Federal government to say no to jets and save our waterfront. Make sure to let your MP know what you think at https://t.co/gtDDnus7aN! #topoli#onpoli#cdnpoli
Steven Guilbeault: "If you look at our campaign platform during the last election, commitments that we made to Canadians, mentioned climate change 28x. It did not mention pipelines once. So I think rightfully so, some people are wondering what is happening."
