Several new books have come out on the Age of Revolutions. Roberto Breña's review of two books points towards obvious gaps and new directions. Check it out! https://t.co/UezewDKXMY
The findings that are particularly surprising and notable are Tricoire's argument that the [French] anti-slavery discourse was deeply informed by Catholic philosophy and Franchina's recovery of the role of missionaries and Catholic practice in the Haitian Revolution.“
@Barlafuess
Happy to read the peer-review for the evaluation of one of our projects by the DFG: „This has been a highly successful grant. Historians have not paid much attention to the role of Catholicism in the Haitian Revolution or in the pre-Revolution." ...
"The articles and special edition of Slavery & Abolition by Franchina and Tricoire will undoubtedly change that, sparking new debates in Atlantic history, French history, and Haitian Revolutionary history."
So #twitterstorians and other scholars, this is a call to all of you: 1) Name here facts usually considered true in scholarship but that you are certain they are wrong, 2) try to explain why scholars believe them!
How is it possible that brilliant scholars follow wrong premises? E.g why does everyone believe that Diderot has written the many chapters of Raynal's Histoire des 2 Indes we attribute to him? Everything speaks against it and yet an enormous scholarship builds upon this claim!
Voltaire's ghost haunting hideous concrete buildings.
Grafitti at @TrierUni , the right place for writing a book on Voltaire, it seems! does this explain @DTricoire's activities right now?
We will also present the Database of @SBurrowsFBTEE , MPCE (Mapping Print, Charting Enlightenment) with whom our ERC Project, Pamphlets and Patrons, works in close cooperation, as our database is build upon MPCE.
