@IanDarke And if an Italian team set up that way they would be ridiculed for playing the same old anti-football, dark arts and ‘catenaccio’ - the double standards across the English media is why everyone despises them so much
@henrywinter If an Italian team did this you would be constantly talking about catenaccio and all the other stereotypes that get thrown. Now the shoe is on the other foot it’s ‘brave’ and ‘committed’
@eliosalerno87 If Conte comes in, he won’t take a long term view and we will see the same names. We need to build around as many U23 players as we can that are playing in Serie A and around Europe and bed them in. If they make mistakes so what, it’s not like the existing players are better!
@IFTVMarco Prandelli used it well in Euro 2012 (apart from the final) - given the profile of players coming through, I feel it’s our best option. But the most important thing is putting a manager in place that will prioritise young players, and none of the names I’m seeing are known for it.
@IFTVMarco I think we need our own identity, but something that works for us based on the players we have. If it were me I would look at a 4-3-1-2 as a baseline - we don’t have the wingers but we do have athletic full backs which you need for it. It leaves us with 2 up front + no. 10 role.
@XtraAzzurri@SkySport@Azzurri@FIGC Well if Abete gets appointed then it’s clear nobody is serious about change. Malagò with the right people beside him with the right intentions is probably the best option.
@bencoles_ It’s more likely young people in Italy will turn to Rugby, Tennis, Athletics instead of football, so could have a ‘positive’ effect on it in some way
@XtraAzzurri This is it now. There’s no coming back - a full generation of Italians have not seen Italy at the World Cup. And still nothing will change.
@ALBfootball Yeah he is doing well on loan in Serie B this year. Now he’s ‘officially’ not Italian anymore, he’ll probably get a chance with Napoli next year 😂
@AlfredoMara_ Even just as an option… if it got to say ‘75 minute and we needed a goal, imagine having the ability to bring on Pio and Kayode. The crazy thing is Gattuso was even testing long throws with Calafiori in the last games 🫠
@Italy_Focus The midfield is v. poor. Too many out of form players in the squad. But I think more worryingly there is no real collective or stand out leaders, which is something NI/Wales/Bosnia have. There has always been a tendency to play it ‘safe’ with our call ups, this is no exception.
@XtraAzzurri@SkySport@Gazzetta_it@Azzurri@FIFAWorldCup How Berardi is still in contention 4 years on from that horrible miss in the last playoff shows the lack of progress - some players are just not going to cut it with national team regardless of their club performances. We shouldn’t be playing any systems with wingers anyway.
@Italy_Focus Good to see, let’s hope they can continue to develop 🤞 Feels like most of the best prospects are dual nationals annoyingly (such as Donner) - hopefully there see their long term future with Italy.
