The Angel Falls, known locally as the Kerepakupai Merú, is the world's largest waterfall, with a height of 979 meters (3,212 feet) and a plunge of 807 meters (2,648 feet). This awe-inspiring cascade is not only a testament to the beauty of nature but also a historical landmark that has been shaped by the indigenous people, explorers, and modern-day tourism.
The history of Angel Falls is deeply intertwined with the indigenous Pemon people, who have lived in the region for centuries. The Pemon have a rich oral tradition, and their stories and legends have been passed down through generations. They were the first to witness the beauty of the falls and gave it the name Kerepakupai Merú, meaning "waterfall of the deepest place."
The Western world was unaware of the existence of the Angel Falls until the 20th century. In 1933, American aviator Jimmie Angel flew over the falls while searching for a precious ore bed. He was so captivated by the sight that he returned in 1937 with his wife and two companions to explore the area further. Unfortunately, their plane became stuck in the marshy ground, and they were forced to trek through the jungle for 11 days to reach civilization.
In honor of his discovery and the subsequent rescue mission, the waterfall was named after Jimmie Angel. The name "Salto del Ángel" was first published on a Venezuelan government map in December 1939. The world soon learned of the existence of this magnificent waterfall, and its fame grew over time. In 1949, American journalist Ruth Robertson led an expedition to measure the height of the falls, and they were officially recognized as the world's tallest waterfall.
Today, Angel Falls is a popular tourist destination and a source of national pride for Venezuela. It is located in Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. The park is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, and its unique landscape has been shaped by millions of years of geological processes.
In order to preserve the natural beauty of the falls and the surrounding area, the Venezuelan government has implemented strict regulations on tourism and development. This ensures that future generations can continue to enjoy the majesty of the Angel Falls and the rich history that surrounds it.
The original purpose of NATO was to counter USSR aggression & later to avoid nuclear war with the Soviets. Yet NATO expanded the most *after* the fall of the USSR. George Kennan, the lead architect of our deterrence strategy, said NATO expansionism was “the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post Cold War era.” And now NATO’s behavior is bringing us *closer* to nuclear war with post-Soviet Russia. Time to think independently again with fresh eyes.
@TraficoCPanama Como siempre el alto está de adorno, pero @ATTTPanama solo se ocupa de reducir e limite de velocidad a niveles adsurdos en autopistas, y constante cambio entre 100, 60, 80 en la interamericana para las debidas multas
