We Argentine’s get too wrapped up in the emotions fútbol brings.
And once you cross that line, there is no going back.
This still feels like a dream & will take time to process.
But in the meantime, I can get used to saying: 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒍 𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒐
I was eight years old when Italia ’90 introduced me to this feeling.
Thirty-six years later, watching Argentina take the field as defending world champions carries a different kind of emotion. Back then, I watched with childhood wonder. Today, it’s gratitude- for still caring this deeply, for still feeling that same anticipation every time they play.
Some things never leave you. 🇦🇷⚽
The #FIFAWorldCup has always been more than a tournament.
For many of us, especially those raised in football-loving households, it becomes a marker of time. We don’t just remember who won or lost, we remember where we were in life. The friends we watched with. The relationships we were in. The schools we attended. The cities we called home.
Every four years, the World Cup arrives and somehow captures a snapshot of who we are at that moment. Then life moves on until the next one.
Years later, we can often trace our lives through World Cups more easily than through calendars. That’s what makes it so special. It’s not just football. It’s memory, nostalgia, and a shared experience that follows us through every stage of life.
Happy #FIFAWorldCup Opening Day! ⚽️
I’m skipping the heavy tactical breakdowns. Instead, I’m leaning into pure nostalgia and live experiences - comparing my memories of #USA94 to the matches I’m attending over the next few weeks (fingers crossed for the #USMNT tomorrow! 🇺🇸).
I'll be writing about the journey, the atmosphere, and the magic of a home World Cup over on The Sixth Mid. Drop your email to follow along: https://t.co/Dw6V7T6WMa
Who else is caught up in the day-one buzz? 🏆
In 1998, #USSoccer hired Carlos Queiroz to spend a year studying the game in America & write a 113-page blueprint to make the 🇺🇸 a World Cup contender.
Now 73, he's coaching Ghana into the 2026 #FifaWorldCup on American soil.

Wrote about this back in October. The mismanagement of #LamineYamal was already showing - now it's a hamstring and a season ended at the worst possible time. Hope he makes it to the World Cup, but this is exactly the pattern I was worried about: https://t.co/S9cmI5erQP
🚨 BREAKING: Lamine Yamal will be 𝐎𝐔𝐓 for the rest of the season with Barcelona with the hamstring injury 🤕❌
He’s expected to return in time for the World Cup ✨
Thirty years later, I'm still thinking about that afternoon in Fullerton. First of a few pieces on the buildup to '94 - and what it means heading into 2026.

OTD: April 6, 1996, the world was introduced to @mls 💫
@EricWynalda scored the first-ever MLS goal in the first-ever MLS match at Spartan Stadium in our 1-0 victory against D.C. United.
