Happy 60th birthday to my quirky, beloved hometown of Washington. This brilliant piece from @MrGeorgeClarke sets out why it's just so special.
@AngelaRayner will kickstart economic growth and get Britain building again with a new generation of new towns.

This is a principle that is a hill to die on for me. It is absolutely essential that our special schools and AP receive the full allocation of the grant.
@FunkyPedagogy An awful practice. My daughter was the last in her class to get one and it massively impacted her self esteem. We don’t do this in my school.
@englishspecial SEND. The system is broken. Hundreds of vulnerable children are out of education because there are no spaces for them in specialist settings that are already at breaking point.
@jillberry102@duncanspalding@tes Absolutely this! As a Specialist school, we employ 70+TAs, (70% of our work force.) They deliver highly specialised programmes, personal care, and medical support such as peg feeding, diabetes care and stoma care. We couldn’t function without them. Pay them what they deserve!
@Carolin06615568@AlexJQuigley Agreed. The amount of history content is insane, as are the sciences. Experiencing GCSEs as a parent this year has been an eye opener.
The Covid generation missed out on so much and their mental health took a huge hit. There is inadequate MH support for them. They also have a future of uni debts, rising unemployment, spiralling living costs and unable to get on the property ladder. Our children deserve better!
They did. They endured two years of radically disrupted education, isolation & lockdowns - all in order to protect vulnerable & elderly citizens.
Which is more than the boozing hypocrites in Downing Street did.
Stop demonising young people.
