@MartinHeaney8@rayofoghlu The land is worth what the farmer working the land wants to pay.
Regarding the removal of payments from "non active or armchair farmers", it would seem that the best option would be to go back increasing taxation which will decrease the amount of land available to all others.
@PopeSeneca@jhcgraham@StephenMather6 You mean NGOs like the Rape Crisis Centre? Lots of them do good work and making sure they are funded is important too. Cutting all fjnding would be a disaster.
@rayofoghlu Indeed but I think telling hill farmers to give up without displaying how they could continue preferentially is a non runner. I would say that the hill system is closest to what has consistently been done for hundreds of years as any system, as unideal as that may be.
@ORLY68@Eamon4prez@benchwarmer001 Just means it's another Friday now. It was one day when something was different. It's not the end of the world pubs are open for the day, neither was it the end of the world that pubs were closed on the day.
My son Tom and I will travel by tractor from the Farm Centre to Rosslare tomorrow, before taking the ferry to Dunkirk and then travelling on to Brussels to join this Thursday's Europe-wide farmer protest organised by the European farm umbrella body, @COPACOGECA.
@IFAmedia
@jimmyfalco77@rayofoghlu Well it's extreme compared to Brazil. Compliance checks, paperwork and regulations. Fines and prosecutions for non adherence.
Virtually no farmer has the expertise to complete this on their own and needs to employ experts to facilitate this.
@Niall_Boylan@DanMulhall State pensions(especially non contributory) could be considered socialism.
Children's allowance,
Free education,
The travel pass
All socialist policies.
@rayofoghlu I'd say we are far ahead of Brazil regards our environment.
Obviously there are issues, many of which you highlight to be fair but it certainly isn't a free for all here.
We don't need to have 60% tree cover to have an equal starting point IMO.
Have to have some way to fight.
@JonathanFearon1@tomdoorley Because learning languages is very easy for people in their 60s.
I dont think its likely Heather will win. But I hope if people are or arent voting for her it wont be because her language skills are comparable to theirs. Speaking Irish doesn't make you a superior Irish person.
