✏️ Why I like West Brom to win & BTTS… There’s a sizeable gap between these two sides on paper. West Brom remain a Championship club, while Rotherham have suffered back-to-back relegations and will play in League Two this season. The Millers really struggled defensively last year, conceding 71 goals in 46 league games (1.54 per game) on their way to a 23rd-place finish. It’s been a summer of huge change since then. 11 players were released and five loanees departed, with new manager Alex Bruce now overseeing a major rebuild. That makes West Brom the side I expect to have too much quality over 90 minutes, particularly with their attack strengthened over the summer. But I don’t think Rotherham scoring can be ruled out at home. 50% of West Brom’s Championship games saw BTTS land last season, while their defensive record was considerably worse away from The Hawthorns, conceding 1.43 goals per away game. Rotherham should also come into this with renewed optimism under a new manager and a new squad. At home, in a cup tie, I think they’re capable of causing Albion problems. The divisional gap makes me strongly favour West Brom to eventually get the job done, but their away defensive numbers leave the door open for Rotherham to contribute.
