Absolutely and unequivocally against it! Have been against this caste thread when it emerged couple years ago. We worked to defeat it when it came up as an agenda item with the Santa Clara County Human Rights Commission. SB403 is just plain wrong and much ado about nothing. Such I'll-conceived and misguided policies are the reason why California is in a crisis today and sliding downhill fast.

Our response to the unfounded allegations by #AudreyTruschke -

Audrey Truschke of @RutgersU has jumped the shark and drifted off into la-la land. We can’t help but feel sorry for her students.

There is no kinder way to express our reaction to her latest tweet where she draws a clear line between death threats and CoHNA, a registered 501(c)3 advocacy organization in the US. Once is a mistake, twice is an oversight, but more than that is a pathological lie.

She has repeatedly claimed that CoHNA is a “rightwing organization” (we don’t even know what that means). She has said that we are a “branch” of the HSS (we are not). She now claims that a California lawmaker is in the “same situation”. of receiving death threats (She is not.  Sen. Wahab’s interview to Time Magazine makes no mention of death threats). She says we are a “Hindu Nationalist” group (we are not).

But we cannot engage in a dialogue with her to try and correct her because she does not allow comments on her twitter feed and blocks all those who disagree with her, including us. She uses her Twitter access as a one-way megaphone to transmit her fantasies to her faithful cult.

In our view, Audrey Truschke is a coward and a pathological liar who hides behind the special freedoms we have given academics in this country to freely speak their mind.

She is a coward because she does not have the guts to engage in a neutral debate with those who might disagree with her.  But from time to time, she will make a particularly provocative tweet, casting bread in the waters to attract some random Twitter user into responding with an abusive message. She will then brandish that as evidence of her victimhood. We suspect that many of these “abuses” are posted by troll accounts that are actually doing her bidding.

We also believe that she is a pathological liar.  Anyone who makes an inflammatory imputation - that CoHNA was somehow behind the mythical death threats to Sen Wahab (or anyone else) should be decent enough to produce a shred of actual evidence.  But decency and Truschke seem to have parted ways a long time ago. To continue to make statements that she must know to be untrue is the mark of a liar. To do that repeatedly is the mark of a pathological liar. In that, she has inspired (or perhaps imbued) the vitriol from her friends in #Hinduphobia - Equality Labs and the ironically named “Hindus for Human Rights.”

We are deliberately not referring to her as “Professor” Truschke, since the only thing she has professed in a long time is hatred for Hinduism and Hindu American advocacy organizations. We could be charitable and respect her academic freedom, but in our opinion, she has long since ceased to be an academic and turned into a full time polemical rabble rouser and Hinduphobe.

It is entirely up to @RutgersU to judge whether or not Truschke represents their standards of academic freedom and judgment. It is their call to decide if she can be fair in teaching about Hinduism in a classroom while simultaneously lying outright in social media. It is for them to judge her integrity and mental balance.

For our part, we will give her the same treatment we reserve for those who would abuse their privilege as academics to repeat blatant lies - contempt. We will not be baited into responding to the random ravings of a coward and a pathological liar.
