I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately…

Are the people we come home to getting the rest of us… or the best of us?

Because if I’m being honest, there are days I walk through that door and I’ve given everything away already. Every ounce of energy. Every bit of patience. Every smile. Every “you’ve got this” I had to give.

And then I look at my boys.

Those two little faces don’t care how many emails I answered. They don’t care how many people I poured into that day. They just know their dad is home.

And they deserve more than what’s left over.

They deserve the best of me too.

Not the exhausted version.
Not the distracted version.
Not the “just give me a minute” version that turns into an hour.
They deserve the dad who laughs with them.
The dad who gets on the floor and plays.
The dad who listens… really listens… to their stories, even when they don’t make a whole lot of sense.
Because one day, they won’t remember how busy I was.

They’ll remember how present I was.
And I don’t want them growing up thinking that everyone else got the “fun dad” while they got what was left.
This work we do matters. It really does.

But so does the life waiting on us at home.

So here’s the reminder I needed today, and maybe you do too…

Give your best where it matters most.

Because the people at home… they’re not asking for perfection.

They’re just asking for you.
