May God grant us strength to oppose ourselves, courage to face weakness, conviction to accept faith, peace to relax our mind, and wisdom to reassure our heart.
@joekent16jan19@joekent16jan19 predicted this yesterday. Israel and U.S. have different objectives in this war as evident by what they’re doing today in Lebanon to sabotage the ceasefire. We don’t want our service members die in the Middle East because Israel can’t control itself.
@EricLDaugh@SecRubio is GOP’s best chance for 2028. Don’t get me wrong, JD is also a good option, but quite frankly not good enough to gain votes beyond registered republicans in purple states.
What’s unfolding in Iran may be the most consequential and underreported story in the world. Free elections there won’t just be a human rights victory. The fall of the Ayatollahs will release tens of millions of people, who come from one of the most creative civilizations in history. Iranian culture has shaped art, science and innovation for centuries. Suppressing it hurts not just Iranians, but humanity as a whole.
Unpopular take but the FCC overstepped with Jimmy Kimmel...
He didnt get canceled. ABC was threatened by FCC Chair appointed by Trump on a podcast
Fuck Jimmy Kimmel but the government shouldn't be used as a political weapon.
The reason I disagree with cancelling Jimmy Kimmel’s show for his comments, is the same reason I disagree with killing people for their opinions, though these are obviously vastly different extremes. At the core, what they have in common is suppressing opinions rather than allowing them.
Allowing opinions directly correlates with the health of a liberal democracy. I’ll explain why.
When somebody expresses their opinion, it is the signal to the world that the belief exists. Perhaps in one person, perhaps in a million. If that belief is incorrect, immoral, or in some way harmful, eliminating the speaker doesn’t disappear the belief, it only disappears the signal.
Think of it like this. Shutting off the fire alarm doesn’t extinguish the fire. It only allows us to pretend the fire doesn’t exist, until it eventually kills us.
The signal—the expression of belief—is vital because it lets us know that it exists, and if erroneous, must be challenged. Liberal democracies rest on the market place of ideas. That means all ideas fight it out against each other; the surviving idea crowned as the truest truth.
If the existence of an erroneous belief is never signaled, it is never brought to the market to be challenged, and it is therefore never extinguished. Until it is too late.
The free expression inherent to liberal democracies is what separates us from our rivals - dictatorships, authoritarians, and totalitarian regimes.
Liberal democracies show marked superiority in social advancement precisely because of the utility in free expression (amongst other things). Not because every opinion is good, but because every opinion has announced itself to be challenged if it isn’t. That’s how we get to truth.
@FoxNews@benshapiro@charliekirk11 would’ve hated to see an American citizen being censored because of him. We mourn his death for two reasons 1) because an innocent man was murdered 2) Charlie’s murder was an appalling assault on free speech. As much as I disliked @jimmykimmel I hate to see this.
It’s called the “Persian Gulf” for 2,500 years.
Never under Shah’s leadership could you call the “Persian Gulf” anything else.
Only under the current tyrannical leadership of Iran could you do that.
The IRGC destroyed the once rich history of Iran.🇮🇷
