Gender Portraits opens today in the Voices of Pensacola. Drew Riley interviews individuals that are part of the trans, intersex, & gender nonconforming communities, using her art to bring each person’s story to life through portraits of a person’s authentic self. Open 10-4.
At least 37 transgender and gender-nonconforming people have been killed this year, most of them Black and Brown transgender women. It’s intolerable. This Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor their lives—and recommit to the work that remains to end this epidemic of violence.
This feels like leaving an abusive relationship and remembering what it’s like to see friends and smile again while reminding myself I won't be yelled at when I get home. I know I'm just getting basic needs met yet I'm so happy because the alternative has been so bad for so long.
