@maeve76553742 Interestingly, the preferred term in academe for the treatment of the Irish is “forced indentured servitude” meaning Irish who were viewed by the English as impoverished would be forcibly deported to the Americas and sold to the highest bidder.
@TheNiceProf @OpenAcademics@AcademicChatter@AcademicsSay Whoa, so cool! I got a dozen of my favorite roses from one advisor, and a first edition of my key author’s poems from another. I treasured these, but the best “thing” I got was a genuine and long-lasting friendship with 2 advisors.
@KAYXSUU Not at all! Go for it 😉 You’ll probably discover there are students older than you in your classes. I was 22 when I went to college, and I was really able enjoy and benefit from it - more, I think, than at 18.
@DrBritWilliams@hampshirecolg Naw it’s just convo ;) I’ve been so shut down: I rarely speak about race or my race anymore at work because I’m either ignored or literally told “We KNOW what you’re going to say, Jenna.” It felt good to talk to someone and be listened to. Thank YOU!
@DrBritWilliams@hampshirecolg Love this statement. I like the PoC. NDNs are killed at a higher rate than any other ethnic group in the US (check stats for conf) and although I appreciate the current focus is on Mr Floyd, for good reason, I also feel it’s an opportunity to end state violence against all PoC.
@rlas1978 Ah, now I *have* looked at your profile, which speaks volumes: you’re trying too hard. Indian Hill, CCD, Camargo Hunt, Cincinnati Polo, The Merchantile, Young Republicans. But you’re not all that familiar with Ohio. PS: Don’t forget to caps state abbreviations, Teach.
