Many leaders and activists of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) remain imprisoned or are reported missing, while others continue to face prolonged legal proceedings. Despite these challenges, PTM members say they remain committed to advocating peacefully for the rights, dignity, and future of their people.

We call on @Europarl_EN, @EP_HumanRights, @eu_eeas, @EU_Commission and @kajakallas, to closely monitor these cases, support due process, and encourage respect for fundamental human rights, including fair trial guarantees and protection from enforced disappearance.

The arrest of PTM Central Committee member @ZubairShahAgha1 under the draconian 3 MPO law is yet another example of how preventive detention continues to be used to silence peaceful political activism in Pakistan. Laws meant for exceptional circumstances must not become tools to suppress democratic dissent.

We call for the immediate release of Zubair Shah Agha and an end to the misuse of preventive detention against peaceful political voices.

جبکہ انہی پشتون بیلٹ کے وسائل پر پھلنے پھولنے والی پنجابی استعماری قوتیں، ان کے کسی بھی ادارے یا انکے کٹھ پتلی ایجنٹوں میں یہ جرات نہیں کہ دھرنے پر بیٹھے احتجاجی مظاہرین کو امن کی یقین دہانی کرا سکے۔

PAKISTAN: Zubair Shah Agha, a core committee member of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), was arbitrarily detained on 28 June after attending a press conference organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Quetta on the sentencing of Mahrang Baloch.

He has since been held in administrative detention under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO). Zubair Agha's detention is the latest in a growing pattern of Pakistani authorities using administrative detention powers to arbitrarily deprive activists, journalists and human rights defenders of their liberty. Similar to Zubair, Syed Bibi Baloch was taken into administrative detention under MPO on 1 July in Turbat, Balochistan after a peaceful protest was announced regarding Mahrang’s sentencing. On 20 June, journalist Ahmad Farhad was also detained under MPO in Bagh, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where he remains in custody.

Pakistani authorities must immediately release Zubair Shah Agha, Syed Bibi Baloch and Ahmad Farhad, and end the misuse of administrative detention laws to suppress peaceful dissent and uphold the rights to liberty, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

The University of Karachi has once again witnessed disturbing scenes of campus violence. Members of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) and the Imamia Students Organization (ISO) allegedly attacked members of the Pashtoon Students Council UOK, leaving several Pashtun students injured.

This is not an isolated incident. Just days earlier, Sindhi students were also reportedly subjected to violence. The recurrence of such attacks reflects a serious failure to ensure a safe environment for students.

Universities are meant to encourage learning, critical thinking, and peaceful exchange of ideas—not intimidation, assaults, or the suppression of dissent. Every student, regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation, deserves to feel safe on campus.

The University of Karachi administration must act without delay by investigating these incidents, holding those responsible accountable, and taking meaningful measures to prevent future violence.

A campus where students fear violence is a campus that has failed its purpose. There must be zero tolerance for those who use force instead of dialogue.
