March 14, 2023 is this year’s Equal Pay Day. Each year, Equal Pay Day marks how far into the new year the average woman in the US must work to earn what a comparable man earned in the prior year. So for 2022, the average woman had to work 73 extra days to make as much as a man.
Equal Pay Day originated in 1996 to bring public awareness to the continued gap in compensation between men and women. The gender pay gap is particularly pronounced for women of color and women with disabilities.
