Jonas Salk didn't profit from his discovery of a polio vaccine, as Salk explained to CBS' Edward R. Murrow on April 12, 1955, when he was asked, "Who owns the patent on this vaccine?"
"Well, the people, I would say," Salk replied. "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?"
