Many agencies are tasked the exact same directives as CFPB and this is just a start (1/x)
1. @FDICgov Federal deposit insurance Corp protects consumers from the banking system
2. @TheNCUA National credit union administration protects consumers banking with credit unions
…
If Musk thinks CFPB is redundant someone ask him what the overlapping other agencies are. The guy's grasp about even the most basic stuff is so poor you'd have a fun time at least watching him struggle.
Why shouldn’t we follow the basic demand supply principle for healthcare?
If you artificially increase the supply of doctors when there’s no meaningful shortage, all you do is flooding the market with supply while suppressing wages and decreasing quality of care
And how would you feel if people did that to your profession? Would you be better off if we decided that we needed to infuse the market with 10x of supply so that you could make 10x less you make today for the same amount of output? Of course you would say no
There’s an excess of healthcare workers in urban areas. In rural areas, shortage is driven by lower reimbursements, not because of lack of supply but because it’s impossible for physicians to maintain a profitable business in areas where you can’t get adequately reimbursed for services
You may argue that bringing foreign doctors can solve the crisis in rural America but the reality is as soon as you settle foreign doctors in rural areas, they will move to urban centers to better economic opportunities and you end up contributing more to the excess supply that already exists in cities
3/x Policy and Influence:
His influence in tech policy discussions might lean towards policies that benefit his business model, which traditionally relies heavily on user data for advertising revenue, potentially at the expense of privacy rights.
The involvement in shaping tech policy by someone whose company has been embroiled in privacy scandals might not serve the public interest, especially when the push has been for more transparent and user-centric data practices.
**Thread: Why Mark Zuckerberg Shouldn't Be Advising on Tech Policy**
1/x Censorship Concerns
Meta has been at the center of selectively censoring content based on political pressures or perceived biases. There have been evidence of content suppression related to political figures and sensitive topics like election integrity
The decision to censor humor and satire during the COVID-19 pandemic, as revealed by Zuckerberg himself, shows a willingness to bow to government pressure, undermining the principle of free expression. This suggests a policy influenced more by external forces than by a commitment to free speech.
2/x Data Privacy Issues:
The Cambridge Analytica scandal highlighted how user data was exploited on a massive scale, revealing significant lapses in data protection. This incident alone questions the efficacy of privacy policies under Zuckerberg's leadership.
Despite repeated promises to improve privacy, there have been multiple instances where user data was not adequately protected or was shared without explicit consent. This pattern suggests a recurring issue with implementing robust privacy standards.
Canadian healthcare model is hardly the gold standard to model after by any measures
The wait time to see a general practitioner is in the bottom quartile for most developed nations
Wait time for specialist care is even more abysmal
This is not the healthcare model we need
We need government out of our healthcare
We need politicians who don’t speak platitudes
We need leaders who will work to create opportunities for all hard working Americans
Your job is not to be the arbiter of wealth or decide how to redistribute wealth to force equity of outcomes
Real leaders will work to find the root causes of these challenges we face whether that’s healthcare or housing affordability
It comes down to holding corrupted pharma/insurance companies accountable instead of touting healthcare is right and therefore we should have government sponsored healthcare
@elonmusk As a society, we need to have growth and prosperity to make child rearing affordable and feasible for the average working family
The decline in birth rate mirrors the decline in American prosper
@unusual_whales There’s resentment towards the political elite who’s never been held accountable for decades of waste and misjudgment
There’s resentment towards those in power that don’t actually serve the American people
