DMC, Bayonetta, God of War and Ninja Gaiden to name a few are often regarded as top class in action game design, there is a lot of undercover gems I want to highlight that I feel are on par or even better depending on who you ask. ๐งต
Tried out the Max Damage: Minigames setting for a few minigames (Cactuar Crush, 3D Brawler, Gears And Gambits) And it does absolutely trivialize them.
This is a good thing. #FF7R#FF7
People are treating Onimusha: Way of the Sword like it's supposed to play like Sekiro, Nioh, or Ninja Gaiden, when it's supposed to play like Onimusha.
And, in this case, it plays specifically like the first two games, which are like a classic-style RE game with melee weapons. It's slower-paced combat that encourages patiently doing various types of issens, with the alternative of mashing the attack buttons to kill everything.
Onimusha 3 and 4 are the far more action-oriented ones. If you wanted the new Onimusha to play specifically like these games, the complaints I'm seeing are more valid from that perspective. If someone says, "This plays nothing like Onimusha," it's more than likely they're only talking about 3 and 4.
And, in the first two games, the fodder enemies were generally very easy to kill too. And they would also take turns trying to kill you, instead of all at once. Especially in the early parts of the games.
And the bosses would almost be a massive step up in difficulty compared to the regular enemies. Like it would always go from an extremely simple moveset from enemy fodder to a more complex one from a boss.
However, despite everything I said, I would be more than happy if Capcom introduced more difficulty options for people who weren't looking forward to gameplay reminiscent of specifically Onimusha 1 & 2.
It's giving me whiplash considering by Onimusha 4 you would get whipped on normal mode by 8 different enemies at the same time and the game would give you no invincibility on your normal attacks you had to commit to
I see people saying this and sure Onimusha had some surface level concepts and aesthetics of souls games but they had a very distinct flavor to them beyond that. The games had more hints of hack and slash and crowd control than souls games do.
@IdiotResid10154 How is it "turning into a souls like"? Onimusha was doing parries, souls as currency and the whole package in 2001. If anything, Souls games took a bit from Onimusha more than anything.
This is the bigger issue, maybe the from software influence wouldnโt be as bad if the enemies fought back. I mean this is a demo so Iโm sure they have an ultimate difficulty or something but they need to reassure us that this demo is a poor representation of the final game
The problem with Onimusha at this point isnโt even that theyโre turning it into a Soulslike.
Itโs that theyโre turning it into a Soulslike without the aspects the game would actually benefit from, as well as taking bad habits from other contemporary action games.
@Thatguysamaniac Game obviously has to be good not just hard. Devs are making tons of great games where the glaring issue is lack of challenge and friction
I really donโt understand how the whole gimmick of souls game is being difficult and the games are wildly successful (even if they are not as difficult as people say they are) but developers still insist on making games as passive and impossible to die in as possible.
Like bro if the player doesnโt die or feel like they at deaths door in the first hour of the game, put your game in the trash. Itโs that simple. Elden Ring sold 30+ million copies. This is what gamers want, even the casuals.
Naa we got plenty of credit hoppers online. What they canโt relate to is actually understanding the games they play and not just tumbling down a mountain to the finish line.
Enjoying more Fate/Samurai Remnant. Gonna try to finish it before the month ends. Something the geriatric gamers living in Twitter Spaces can't relate to how easy it is to pick up a controller, play games, and actually beat them.
Naoki Hamaguchi says they will not let FF7 Remake Part 3 end in an half-finished state and are determined to complete it to the very end!
"We absolutely won't leave the third installment in a half-finished state. I'm determined to bring it to a point where I can proudly say, 'I've completed the 'FF7 Remake series' to the very end.' That's the determination in which we're developing it now. Please look forward to it!!"
