@fizzyknitting@BladeoftheS The Olympics may have more competing participants but the World Cup has bigger crowds and more people wanting to come from those banned countries. If they can do what they're doing to the WC, the Olympics will be a doddle. They're ruining the world's biggest event.
@Normanjam67 Never been less excited about a World Cup. Too many teams, too expensive, and shit hosts who interfere and ban fans from countries they don't like. Hope Iran and Iraq do well.
@fizzyknitting@BladeoftheS The World Cup is a much more popular and important event than the Olympics though, so this ought to be the big one to boycott.
@TitchMaphosa@Thendeavortobe@_AfricanUnion It was the other way round: the colonial powers wanted to show off to their rivals how big their colonies were; they were proud of how small their home countries were. Why would they want to downplay the size of their colonies?
@DouglasVertexCC@JoshuaBarzon@grok It has nothing specifically to do with Mercator: it's the same in any rectangular projection such as Gall-Peters etc.
