Anurag Dhankar (1972–2026)

Bureaucrats India mourns the passing of Anurag Dhankar, 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre and Director General of Police, Tripura.

Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, he served the nation in Tripura, the CBI, CISF and the UN Mission in Kosovo. He led the CBI investigation into the Nirav Modi-PNB fraud and also headed the SIT that reinvestigated cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been conferred the National Award for e-Governance 2026 (Gold) by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances for its AI-enabled Clinical Decision Support System integrated with the eSanjeevani telemedicine service. The award was received on behalf of the Ministry by Shri Madhukar Kumar Bhagat, Joint Secretary, along with other team members.

Recognised under the category “Innovation by the Use of AI and Other New Age Technologies for Providing Citizen-Centric Services,” the initiative provides AI-based clinical support to doctors based on patients’ symptoms, strengthening clinical decision-making and benefiting millions of patients on the eSanjeevani platform.

The recognition reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to harnessing AI and emerging technologies to deliver accessible, efficient, and citizen-centric healthcare, bringing quality healthcare closer to every Indian.
