....Says the weeding strenthens bond of unity between the North and South
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, celebrated the wedding of his daughter, Miss Nanbam Mutfwang, to Mr. Jeremiah Ayodele at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters Church, Jos.
The solemn occasion attracted an array of distinguished guests, including the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima; state governors; members of the National Assembly; ministers; traditional rulers; diplomats; senior government officials; clergy; family members; and other eminent personalities from across the country.
Beyond a family celebration, the event became a powerful testament to national unity, faith, and the shared aspiration for peace and progress.
Speaking at the wedding reception, Governor Mutfwang warmly welcomed Vice President Shettima, describing his presence as a demonstration of genuine solidarity with the people of Plateau State, particularly coming barely a week after the Vice President's visit to the state to reaffirm the Federal Government's commitment to restoring peace and security.
"He was here barely a week ago to reassure the people of Plateau State of the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the protection of lives and property. Though the times may be challenging, there is no need for despair. We must continue to move forward with hope and confidence," Governor Mutfwang stated.
The Governor also expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum; Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani; Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda; the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Dr. Benard Doro; the Minister of Defence; General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd); and numerous other distinguished guests who travelled from different parts of the country to celebrate with his family.
He described the overwhelming attendance as a reflection of enduring friendship, mutual respect, and national solidarity, praying that "as God has brought you to rejoice with us today, rejoicing will never cease in your homes."
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima reflected on the symbolic significance of the union between families from Plateau and Osun States, describing it as a celebration of Nigeria's unity in diversity.
He noted that the bride herself is the product of a union between Plateau and Bayelsa States, while the groom hails from Osun State, making the marriage yet another bridge connecting different regions of the country.
"What binds us together is far greater than whatever divides us. We must continue to build bridges and embrace one another as one people," the Vice President declared.
He called on political leaders, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and all stakeholders on the Plateau to rise above ethnic, religious, and political differences in pursuit of lasting peace, stability, and development.
Acknowledging the security challenges confronting Plateau State, the Vice President expressed confidence that they remain surmountable under the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He urged Nigerians to embrace unity, quoting the timeless words: "We either learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."
He further observed that Plateau State possesses enormous human and natural resources capable of transforming it into one of Nigeria's foremost economic hubs if its people remain united and committed to peaceful coexistence.

PLATEAU TRAINS TREASURY STAFF, SEEKS FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE AND PROFESSIONALISM
The Plateau State Government has commenced a four-day capacity-building workshop for treasury staff, with a strong emphasis on enhancing financial discipline, professionalism, and accountability in the public service.
The workshop, themed “Public Financial Management: Achieving Financial Excellence,” is organised by the Office of the Accountant General and is being held at Jongrand Hotel, Bukuru Expressway, Jos South Local Government Area.
Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, challenged treasury officers to prioritise excellence and continuous professional development.
Expressing concern over the level of progress since a similar training held in 2024; particularly regarding the acquisition of professional certifications such as Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria; the Governor directed that a list of staff without either qualification be compiled for appropriate action.
He further announced that, as part of the 2026 performance assessment criteria, the best five accountants in the state will be sponsored for international training.
Governor Mutfwang emphasised that financial excellence begins with personal discipline and the right mindset, noting that technical competence must be complemented by continuous self-improvement. He observed that while Plateau State is rich in talent, progress is often hindered by limited commitment to self-development and a narrow professional outlook.
The Governor also highlighted ongoing reforms within the civil service, stating that his administration has improved working conditions through the provision of office infrastructure, vehicles, and allowances. However, he expressed concern that these efforts are often underreported by beneficiaries.
Addressing the broader economic context, Governor Mutfwang noted that public resources remain limited while citizens’ expectations continue to rise. He stressed the need to shift from a consumption-driven approach to a production-oriented mindset.
“Instead of focusing on sharing, we must focus on generation,” he stated, warning against wastage in public expenditure and reaffirming the government’s commitment to tightening financial controls to ensure value for money.
“We must block loopholes, eliminate wastage, and ensure that every kobo spent delivers value,” he added, urging treasury officers to evolve beyond routine bookkeeping and become “true financial engineers” capable of strengthening the state’s financial capacity.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Finance, Grace Dongkum, described public financial management as the backbone of good governance. She noted that the workshop underscores government’s commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency in the management of public resources, adding that achieving financial excellence requires continuous improvement, innovation, and adherence to global best practices adapted to local realities.
In her remarks, the Accountant General, Nanre Manset, explained that the workshop aims to bridge existing capacity gaps by bringing together treasury personnel from state and local government levels. She expressed optimism that the training will strengthen the treasury function and commended the Governor for his leadership and sustained support for capacity development in the civil service.
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Stephen Pam Gadongs, charged participants to internalise the principles of fiscal discipline, minimise errors in financial processes, and improve service delivery timelines. He stressed that financial excellence is practical and measurable, ensuring that every naira delivers maximum value.
It was a great honour and privilege to join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside my brother Governors, at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, for the official unveiling of a book in honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
