HS and College players,
On offense your job is to create an advantage. Advantage means creating a 5v4, 3v2, 5v3, 4v2, etc.
Some ways can create an advantage by:
-Dribble attacks
-Setting a great screen
-Passing
-Cutting

Everybody wants hard coaching until you’re up 30 still coaching about defending the ball, being in gaps, helping the helper, rebounding tough, running in transition and making sound decisions with the ball.
Habits don’t become nor stay habits if they aren’t consistently reinforced. The process leads to excellence not results.
It’s really sad, but after the first recruiting weekend for the 2027 high school class, I had a couple of coaching friends tell me this week they can only take one or two high school players because they have to save spots for the transfer portal. I guess these kids have to go to lower levels and work their way up. A very small percentage will stay anywhere for four/five years. The new normal. 🤷🏼♂️🏀
It happens..
I had a University HR Department call me for a job I really wanted, ( The Coach reached out to me first to see if I was interested ) , Over 30 minutes of questions and conversation as this was the 2nd step of the interview process. Never heard back from either after that, with multiple phone calls, emails, texts from people prior and follow ups after, I was left beyond confused, and questioning what happened. It’s not personal, I know it’s the name of the game, but it still hurt.
A few days later, I accepted my first D1 position for a University I’ve applied to 3 years in a row, ( 1 as a GA and 2 as an assistant ).
The truth is, God’s timing is always perfect. Some things don’t need to make sense, because it was never meant to be part of your plan. I’m so thankful for all the No’s.. At the end of the day, there is always a better YES!
