2026 had a 3% year over year increase from 25 but that is the smallest rise since 2021. Absolutely painful report if you are the Fed or going into an election.
Very disappointing jobs report with 90K expected and only 29K added in Sept. Unemployment also ticked up while a sharp downward revision in Jul/Aug increases the disappointment. Healthcare had a tempered rise while Gov had a drop in employment.

Sept better than expected with 90K in job grown led by Healthcare. As we hit a new quarter the expectation is that Aerospace & Defense will begin to drive job growth as we enter the next 3 months and so ending Sept with an uptick is good.

The challenge of finding people right now is being exacerbated by the AI challenges that companies are putting in between the candidate and job but ghosting is seen as worse. Candidates want communication and less automation.

There is a direct effect of high gas prices, inflation, uncertainty in the economy and consumer confidence. Just about everyone is hopeful but nervous.

Unemployment claims drop to lowest level since mid-July with a 197K report. It's good news in general but does keep the hiring environment very tight. Companies needing people are finding it difficult but most companies are slow to hire right now.

Business is booming in the US but there are huge hurdles on the way. Consumer spending, AI investment and defense outlays are pushing the surge but supply chain and personnel shortages and surging costs could create a hard crash.

Weekly job numbers from ADP show an increase of 20K for the first week of Sept. Staffing expectations are that the 4th q of 2026 will see continued growth assuming that the US has an election cycle with few disruptions and that inflation stalls

Record diesel prices are causing a global crisis with stockpiles falling, exports drying up and with no end in sight. Diesel is hitting farmers and trucking companies hard and the upward pressure on inflation is worsening.

Conference Boards Leading Economic indicators inched down in Aug. Good info here but my takeaway was that all of the Manufacturing sectors stalled after some good months growth. Inflation and Diesel costs surely are contributing factors.

Advertising for Data Center jobs has grown 118% over the past year though median pay is down. Normally that would make sense with Design giving way to touch labor roles but that is not currently the case. Pay is just dropping.

With the rising bond market, sticky inflation and general unease over the economy, the Fed raised interest rates today. with energy prices sharply on the rise and diesel fuel breaking records, the Fed had to try and hold back rising inflation.

With the ADP jobs report adding 16K+ jobs for the last week in Aug, it is a very positive trend almost doubling the total from 5 weeks before. Still very low numbers but at least trending in the right direction.

Fed decision on interest rates this week is set to be a close call. I think they will likely hold off one more month but the pressures to get ahead of inflation will weigh heavily on them.

CPI rose as expected 0.4% in Aug but core was up slightly more than expected. Unless something drastically changes, next weeks meeting of the Fed looks more probable that interest rates will rise. Politics aside, it is hard to see this slowing down.

Mortgage rates continue to climb as the bond market implodes causing the Fed to concentrate almost entirely on inflation rather than jobs. With inflation climbing, housing become less affordable will make people feel the pinch.

US fuel imports down 2 Million barrels a day putting pressure on Diesel prices which are at all time highs. Diesel costs are part of everything we buy and purchasees drives the economy. Skyrocketing debt and inflation are bad partners

162K jobs in Aug is more than double the expectation for the month, increasing the chances for a rate hike and making the markets a little nervous. Surprising it was that high as staffing saw some growth but not that high so expect a revision down.

With the US spending money like never before, the bond markets are sounding an alarm that have real long term consequences for the US. The sitting majority in Congress has the duty to address this but seem completely unwilling.
