@JustJusthpb4@Megultra@realpeteyb123 I know if he was born with it, the vaccine wouldn't have helped in his case, but it is contagious for young cats around others who have it active. Thankfully I have not ran into it again with any of the strays and older seem mainly immune from my understanding.
@SaveAmericaNew There isn't any reason for the CDC to spend money advertising and campaigning for the flu shot yearly. Everyone knows what it is and whether they want it or not.
@CartallicaX1@realpeteyb123 I live in FL. I know someone who thought their dog was poisoned so I went to the vet with them, turned out to be heartworms since they didn't have them on treatment, was horrific to witness for the dog. Not an easy death. Good to learn it's not as common other spots.
@rla323@jaylyn600@realpeteyb123 I also have a cat who had high nerves/gets aggressive with companies due to jealousy over me. One vet I have is used to it and calls him Spicy but they want him vaccinated, I'm overdue now. He is type of may bite or scratch if he got loose and someone tried to pick him up
@UntitledFriday@realpeteyb123 But yes, in US not many logged human cases.
In FL our rabies in animals found increased from 2023 to 2024 by 56 cases more than previous year. Highest was Alachua county
@UntitledFriday@realpeteyb123 That they catch. If you don't know you have rabies and they don't test for it, it will kill you by brain embolism, heart attack, or pneumonia type illness from 1 to 3 days of symptoms. It matches a lot of symptoms and is likely missed a lot.
@Megultra@realpeteyb123 Feline leukemia vax for under age 2 if they go outside is very worth it. We learned that the hard way. Got close to a stray that was tame and lived on our porch, he came down with feline leukemia and started paralysis. We tried steroids, vet, was horrible. Once they are older,
@MattW00124838@realpeteyb123 They also did the drop drive of racoon rabies over the last 15-20 years which has helped vaccinated raccoons in the wild, who are known to be long-term carriers before it activates enough to kill the animal, unlike dogs/cats which are short span from infection to death
@MattW00124838@realpeteyb123 It is NOT a scam. They got it down in numbers over years of vaccinating in the US. We still get cases here in FL, and a childhood dog I knew in NC got rabies and had to be put down. Cities it's much less common, but it can spread if everyone suddenly stops vaccinating their pets
@Pchelochnik@c0lettea@realpeteyb123 Very strict vaccines for years in US. Other countries like India they have it in a lot of stray dogs. Before vaccines it was much more common and dangerous.
@rla323@jaylyn600@realpeteyb123 They do. This is my concern. I have 3 cats and am behind on their vaccinations. They are indoor only and no exposure, but things like shelters, if company comes over, the pound with fines if they drive by, it's the law in FL technically so....
@SamaHoole I don't like Mcdonald's "meat" much. On the rare occassions I eat there, I would do a Mcdouble or Big Mac, but not because of the meat patties
