Monty was what Britain needed when Britain needed him. He knew all through Normandy and into 1945 that Britain was out of manpower and he never let on. He let the Americans think it was his own personal failing rather than a systemic problem, because he couldn't let his country down. A servant of the King.
@Sulkhan Yeah? Like, when would NATO have had the opportunity to "weaken" Russia's army? NATO is a DEFENSIVE alliance and, for some damn reason, Russia has never attacked a NATO country.
@DerekPederson3@CentristMadness There's no way memory "degrades" to the point where you mistake someone who was TALL FAT AND BALD as "medium build with a crew cut."
@spikesguides "Listen here sonny jim, back in MY day 'Call of Duty' was serious! And cool! It was a mil-sim first person shooter. We didn't know what the hell 'meta' was and we didn't care. Yeah, the 1887 akimbo was busted as fuck, but we made do!"
"Alright, gramps, off to bed."
@Knorssman@EliStrawmaning You're right that is a form of lying, but I'll bet in Horton's mind it's a form of telling the truth because it lines up with what he regards as "the Big Truth" or something.
@Abert_Squirrel Weirdly enough, I can remember sitting in my living room with my dad when I was 4 years old watching CNN. I remember that because they kept saying this "Lewinsky" over and over and at the time I didn't understand why.
@WilliamMeservy This is one reason why I think it's essential people work in the private sector before going into politics. So so many businessmen are complete fools about anything outside their narrow expertise, but think they must be geniuses.
@colorblindk1d Not only that, it's been this way for so long it was even lampooned by "Yes, Minister" back in THE 1980s!
"The excuse we use for public schools: that this terrible thing happened because of budget cuts."
"But that's not true!"
"No, but it's a good excuse."
Ukraine is not Russia. That's Putinβs problem β refusing to recognize a separate nation, refusing to recognize a separate country β that's what did him in. He was shown a military operation that was supposed to take three days. We found parade uniforms in their various military vehicles. They were literally marching to a parade. He still doesn't understand and doesn't want to admit that this is a different nation, a different people.
They were advancing on Kyiv from all directions. Their main goal was to seize the capital of Ukraine. They reached Kyiv. They trapped us, and then we started hammering them, and they didn't know what to do about it. They were especially shocked when they drove toward the capital and people were just throwing burning mixtures. People were setting their armor on fire. It wasn't a matter of some general being an idiot. I believe the one who gave the order just didn't fully realize what was happening.
Because what does taking Kyiv mean? When you've taken those towns on the way to Kyiv, you have to leave troops behind to hold those towns. And that takes a huge number of people. It's a pretty large territory. If the people inside offer resistance, then you need an army to hold every town. That was their mistake. They didn't even realize there would be resistance. That was their main mistake. That's it.

This theory has always intrigued me. I don't think it's impossible that the first 3 murders were the "real" Zodiac and the killing of Stine in San Francisco was a copy-cat.
@DerekPederson3 Like I said: hearsay after the fact. We have no direct evidence these bloody knives ever existed. No one can corroborate what Allen said.
