Fifth Honorable Mention: "Urban Tattoo Bust" by Marnix de Vries (IG: @ Marnix)
The Jury chose this work for the following reasons, notes @Edouard : "This work reinterprets the painted terracotta self-portrait bust by Johan Gregor van der Schardt, remarkable for its lifelike polychromy and direct, unidealized gaze. The original already feels unexpectedly modern, with its absence of costume and its physical presence. By adding contemporary markers of identity, this true “remix” further collapses the historical distance. It revives a broader question: sculptural portraiture once conveyed individuality with extraordinary immediacy and spatial presence. In an era dominated by flat, reproducible images, should we give sculpture more space, or do VR and AR make it a lost cause?"

Third winner: "Drie Schaatiën" by Marnix de Vries (IG: @ Marnix)
"By combining the "honesty of the original" 1737 painting by Liotard with the modern energy of the Olympic Winter Games, the artist creates a "vivid" bridge between mythology and sport. The work successfully "deconstructs" the classic Roman sculpture style to dress the goddesses in TeamNL skating suits, maintaining their original "beeldschone" (beautiful) faces while updating their form. Navigating the "complex" challenge of AI—specifically the difficult "behind-the-scenes" positioning of the middle figure—required dedicated prompting and the clever "combination of two AI images" to reach "high expression". Ultimately, this piece presents a "modern" and "narrative" look at the Dutch skating identity, proving that even ancient goddesses can find a place on the contemporary ice." comments another Jury Member, from Google Creative Labs
