Activists gathered outside Kent's Napier Barracks on Saturday to stand in solidarity with asylum seekers being held by the Home Office. The barracks were previously deemed 'unsuitable' for habitation in a report published by the Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration.

Two men detained by UK immigration enforcement were released after residents protested their detention yesterday.

Residents of the road in Glasgow, Scotland, surrounded the immigration van, chanting “they’re our neighbours, let them go”, and “refugees are welcome here”.

Many have argued that the plans lack compassion and understanding for those desperate to leave their countries of origin, and unjustly differentiates between the deserving and undeserving refugee.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel, announced a 'New Plan for Immigration' last week. As part of the plans, asylum seekers who have come via 'unauthorised routes' – such as crossing the Channel in small boats – will be given fewer privileges than those who have come via 'legal routes'.

The plans have been criticised for separating refugees into two 'classes'. Refugee charities have argued that many seeking asylum have no choice about the route they take to reach the UK, and that the government have not done enough to expand so-called safe routes.
