Don't be afraid of using an AED as a bystander when an emergency happens -- most public use AEDs are very simple to use, often giving you step by step voice instructions. Be aware of where AEDs are located, especially in your workplace! Immediate CPR and use of an AED can double, and even triple, survival rates.
#NationalCPRandAEDAwarenessWeek #pdfalwaysready #learncpr
More than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur every year in the United
States and 90% will be fatal. Immediate CPR and AED (automated external
defibrillator) use can double or even triple someone’s chance of surviving cardiac
arrest. But sadly, less than half of all people who need this lifesaving intervention
receive CPR from bystanders before professional help arrives.
This #CPRandAEDAwarenessWeek, the American Heart Association is challenging
everyone to join the #NationofLifesavers and commit to make CPR and AED
awareness and education a permanent fixture in all communities across the
country.
Would you know how to save a life in a cardiac emergency?

On National EMS Week Remembrance Day, we pause to honor the EMS professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
We also remember the patients, families, coworkers, and loved ones impacted by loss, and we recognize the emotional toll this profession can carry. In EMS, every call matters — and so do the people behind the uniform.
Thank you to all EMS providers who continue to answer the call with strength, professionalism, and heart. We remember, we honor, and we will never forget.
Today is EMS Recognition Day, so we want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our first responders who provide life-saving care to our community around the clock. EMS personnel bring advanced skills and innovation to emergency situations that are creating measurable differences for patients even before they reach a hospital.

Uncontrolled bleeding is a leading cause of preventable death after injury. A person can bleed to death in just minutes — often faster than emergency responders can arrive.
That’s why bystanders play a critical role in saving lives. With the right knowledge and tools, anyone can step in and help before first responders get to the scene.
Training is quick, simple, and powerful. Whether you’re learning how to stop a bleed, spreading awareness on social media, or encouraging your organization to participate, you’re helping build a more prepared and resilient community.

On National EMS for Children Day, we recognize the importance of pediatric emergency care and the dedication it takes to serve our youngest patients! We appreciate our partnership with @ChildrensNE, who provide us with specialized pediatric training (simulations, hands-on training, and case reviews) quarterly through their Community Outreach and Education Program.
We are also very fortunate to partner with the Children’s Nebraska Critical Care Transport Team who responds by special request by our Papillion Fire Paramedics to help us take care of the most critically ill pediatric patients.
#PFD knows that not just the differences in service matter, but the differences in education as well -- we are proud to spend so much time with students in various environments to teach them about fire safety, build confidence in stressful situations, and remind them that emergency responders are safe helpers.

Happy #NationalEMSWeek!
National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline. Today’s EMS clinicians bring advanced skills and innovative tools to these moments: evolving models of care that serve patients in big cities, tribal lands, rural plains and everywhere in between. These advancements are creating a measurable difference well before the patient reaches the hospital!
We are incredibly proud of our team at #PFD and all of our partners working on the frontlines. Join us in celebrating and supporting all EMS workers all week long!

May is National Electrical Safety Month, which raises awareness of potential home electrical hazards, the importance of electrical fire safety, and ensures the safety of electrical and non-electrical workers!
Home electrical fires accounted for approximately 13% of all home structure fires and 18% of all home structure fires deaths each year. The direct property damage caused by these fires accounted for approximately 15% of all home structure fires.
Safety tips:
- Have all electrical work done by a qualified electrician.
- When buying or remodeling a home, have it inspected by a qualified private inspector or in accordance with local requirements.
- Only use one heat-producing appliance (such as a coffee maker, toaster, space heater, etc.) plugged into a receptacle outlet at a time.
- Major appliances (refrigerators, dryers, washers, stoves, etc.) should be plugged directly in a wall receptacle outlet. Extensions cords and plug strips should not be used.
- Check electrical cords to make sure they are not running across doorways or under carpets. Extension cords are intended for temporary use.
When to call a qualified electrician:
Frequent problems with blowing fuses or tripping circuit breakers.
A tingling feeling when you touch an electrical appliance.
Discolored or warm wall outlets.
A burning or rubbery smell coming from an appliance.
Flickering or dimming lights.
Sparks from an outlet.
Stay safe!
