This resonates with me , my daughter was initially hospitalised in a general ward mostly with cancer patients , we both felt somehow less deserving of the support - Anorexia is just as deadly and can happen to anyone.
It seems impossible for most to accept that anorexia can just happen. With AN, questions are always asked, as people try to tease out why someone has developed this illness. Yet no one ever asks someone with cancer why they grew a tumour?

Since Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer, I’ve been struck by how differently this disease is talked about compared to anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders.

In the depths of my daughters ED ,managing all meals( recommend treatment ) to take control from the ED voice -many times become absorbed in
- with no previous eating issues or weight concerns I would find myself excited if I didn't have to eat & wanting to secretly exercise.
Today I'm in Hampshire talking about Compassionate Connections

@PookyH@BPSOfficial@KateTchanturia Nothing worked ( in fact everything made it worse) until the autism was recognised ... so important ... have a lot to say on this as well !
It can be so hard to know what to 'say' as a parent at ED recovery meal times - something I did instead was hold her hand , something suggested by one of the units but I actually haven't seen in guidance or research ? Perhaps it should be ? Others experienced this ?
🙏@BPSOfficial highlighting the tremendous work of @KateTchanturia exploring the links between autism and eating disorders

Proud to have played a small part. I have a LOT more to say on this... (and a lot to explore and learn)
My new paper is published TODAY! 🌈 🌈
I argue we need to centralise biology in eating disorders, not always seeing physiology as a secondary consequence of some “true”, “underlying” psychological essence of these illnesses.

Thought I would start my first post with a quote from a poem 'nothing is more stable than the temporary' ... that sums up what made a shift change in our recovery - stop looking for the fix - or end - what seems like temporary hope is as 'permanent' as you let it be
