Pediatric hospitalist committed to reducing health disparities and caring for children with medical complexity. my opinions do not represent that of my employer
1 in 10 Black children will be removed from their homes before they are 18 y.o. Does the child welfare system need to be abolished? How much disproportionate harm does this system do to Black fams? @DorothyERoberts joins @NewBlackMan to discuss. Watch! https://t.co/lgXeZstriT
Idea for these anti-choice groups passing legislation . Any man who gets a woman pregnant, when she does not want a child, is to assume complete fiscal and social responsibility for the child

(1/x) Last night the #MedPeds21 group chat was rocked with news of a sudden change in program leadership for the MedPeds residency at Tulane University. Dr. Dennar, the first Black female program director at Tulane, was no longer PD.
Implicit bias happens everywhere. The includes subliminal messages in trusted journals. This is so important and important step. Shout out to @JHospMedicine for this. 👊🏾
Listening to SCOTUS hearings where ACB warned that she might falsely be called racist. If you support policies that disproportionately benefit White Americans or oppress BIPOC Americans- that is racist
While I worked at planned parenthood we provided many essential health services including giving vaccines, helping pregnant women without insurance get Medicaid, mammograms, cervical cancer screening/treatment and others. Protect women’s health #BidenHarris2020
'According to the Associated Press, #Durham,NC city officials passed a resolution Monday night calling for the federal government to grant reparations to the descendants of enslaved Africans and African Americans.'

Thinking of this Atlantic article from May. This week has shown no one is above this virus- rich white folk can get it. Time to stop politicizing and racializing this pandemic #WearAMask
A child born in a mostly Black census tract bordering the Cleveland Clinic, sponsor of tonight's presidential debate, has a life expectancy 22 years shorter than a child in a White-majority suburb a 15-minute drive away.

Understanding the truth of American history is not anti-American. How can we build a better future if we don’t understand the historical practices/policies that lead to our current state and inequities.
A teacher told me she tried a trauma informed approach. A kid was on zoom eating/daydreaming. Rather than publicly reprimanding, she checked in later to see how he was doing. The student was in the midst of a family crisis. Now she understands & he has support #traumainformed
@tomleblancMD While I agree, when women and leaders of color admit mistakes it is perceived differently than a white male. What makes a good leader may depend who that leader is.
A whistleblower at ICE today exposed that mass hysterectomies are being performed on detained immigrants. If it sounds like a horror show, that's because it is. Gender oppression has a direct correlation with authoritarianism. This is beyond. The vicious cruelty is staggering.
It is complicated. If you want to study health disparities and really look at the heterogenous group of Latinx individuals- you need to be thoughtful about what questions you ask- it may need several on race, perception, culture, and language to really answer your question
I was on a research call yesterday where someone asked if White Latinx participants should be coded as white or latinx. While the standard is to count as Latinx, the issue is more nuanced and may depend on your question 1/
However, my aunt who is White Latinx, is perceived as White, but has a strong accent has also told me of bias she experienced in healthcare. So asking how others perceive you wouldn’t totally get at this experience
