1000's of parents demanding buses be restored, for CPS students w disabilities, and kids in magnet/s.e. DM's open to reporters; we'll connect you with parents.
This is outrageous. And CPS' has the audacity to, yet again, ask for patience, this time after a 5 year old is hospitalized.
To any CPS school board member who follows us: what do you plan to do about this?

We think CPS may have picked schools for phase 2 busing based on bell times- the below schools all have later starts.
Perhaps this is in order to have drivers available after completing an earlier shift transporting students with disabilities.
Below are the list of schools that will, starting Feb 2, receive busing
BEASLEY

HAWTHORNE
INTER-AMERICAN

@ChicagoREDP Try emailing Kimberly Jones, CPS Executive Director of Transportation, at [email protected] and please let us know what you hear.
We are hearing from parents who have kids at those schools who have not received an email, and we are hearing from parents who did.

“The people who had the money and the privilege were able to figure out other situations like rearranging their work schedules,” she said. “People who didn’t, some had to pull their kids out of school.” -parent Erin

As responsibility for transportation shifts to families, the question of how to replace the traditional yellow bus has become an urgent problem for some, and a spark for innovation. https://t.co/EVbr9sRtyN
Here's @CPS_CEO_PM remarks about student transporation: https://t.co/5S1pmnpXJT
We appreciate that he gave an update. But 300 of 5,500 students transported. That's 5,200 students short.
Where's the plan to transport the rest?
One question answered by @CPS_CEO_PM today at the board meeting.
He said CPS is rolling out GenEd transpo based on the "Opportunity Index." Good. Equity-focused.

Next: CPS should be transparent about which schools now have busing. Hoping these:
"With an average of 11 students on a bus, many buses are being sent out 80% empty" - parent Paul addressing CEO Pedro Martinez and COO Charles Mayfield at Chicago School Board meeting today.

@MilaKoumpilova Thank you and thank @chalkbeatCHI for covering this story.
We've got questions - of CPS, not you, Mila.

Also - hearing from some parents of students w disabilities that they still don't have transpo!
CPS has recently been touting their "hubs." We've got questions.
(And we've asked them of CPS COO Charles Mayfield and have not heard a clear answer.)

@L1ama_trade @MilaKoumpilova Yes. 330 students is <10% of the 5,500 magnet/sel enr students (85% low income) whose busing was cancelled.
AND
We've heard from some families of students with disabilities that they're still waiting.

Q4) Hubs are but one solution. Where's the progress on the others?
(Driver Pay /Benefits , transpo providers like hopskipdrive to safely transport more kids, asking SOS for Under the Hood waiver, & transpo dept audit)

All aboard!🚍 This week, our district launched the Hub Stop Pilot Program to expand transportation for eligible general education students across the district!
Hub Stops are centralized pick-up and drop-off locations at select CPS schools, transporting students to and from their school of choice, allowing us to transport more general education students with fewer drivers, making our routes more efficient.

A member's child w/ disabilities rode a van w/ 2 GenEd students in SYE23. He felt included. Then, when CPS cancelled busing to GenEd kids at magnets last school year, 2 GenEd kids no longer had transpo and 1 kid w disabilities rode alone, no inclusion.
Is this fixed CPS?
