My alternative plan for Oct.7, if I were in charge:

Stop the breach on day one. Pre-positioned reserves, drones, and attack helicopters fire on armed infiltrators at the fence. Most hostages and soldiers are saved here.

Give Hamas a short, public ultimatum: release every hostage to a third party within hours, or mapped military targets get hit.

Open one screened corridor Israel controls. Women, children under 16, elderly, and infirm only. Red Cross present. Fighters who try to leave are turned back. If Hamas blocks it, the window closes.

Then strike launch sites, command nodes, arms stores, and tunnel entrances from the air. Accept that some hostages will die.
NO trading thousands of imprisoned terrorists for living hostages or dead bodies.

Use ground troops only for short raids on specific shafts, hostage sites, or commanders, then pull them out. No open-ended urban occupation.
