In 1999, several Avalanche players, including Claude Lemieux, plus GM Pierre Lacroix, lived in the Columbine High area and/or attended the nearby Catholic church. Columbine students were in the team's informal babysitter pool. In the wake of the 13 murders and others wounded on April 20, church parishioner Claude Lemieux asked the family of one hospitalized student if there was anything he could do. The family members, Lemieux's fellow parishioners, mused that, well, they hadn't been home much. Lemieux hired a cleaning service and sent it over to the family's home.
I suspect that Lemieux made other gestures, too, in the aftermath of the shootings, but that's the one I know about.

Help Little Arthur Tetrault Continue His Fight for Recovery

Dear friends, citizens, companies, and foundations,

On October 8, 2024, our lives changed forever.

Our vibrant little boy Arthur Tetrault, just two years old, suffered a tragic drowning accident at our home in L’Île-Bizard, Quebec. Despite desperate efforts to revive him, Arthur’s brain was deprived of oxygen for a prolonged period. Doctors fought to bring him back, and after a very long resuscitation, Arthur miraculously survived.

But the real battle had only just begun.

Arthur suffered severe neurological injury and lost many abilities that most children develop naturally — including the ability to walk, speak, and interact with the world as he once did.

After weeks in the hospital, doctors warned us that his chances of recovery were extremely limited. As parents, we simply could not accept giving up on our son.

Determined to give Arthur every possible chance, we searched around the world for the best specialists in post-drowning brain injury.

Arthur was transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he began specialized treatments including hyperbaric oxygen therapy under the care of internationally recognized specialists.

These treatments have already brought encouraging improvements. Arthur now breathes on his own and continues to show signs of progress.

Today, Arthur continues his treatments in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, where we are pursuing every possible therapy that could help him recover.

Unfortunately, this fight comes with enormous costs.

Our family is currently facing approximately $250,000 USD in unpaid medical bills, related to hospital care, specialized therapies, medical transportation, equipment, and long-term rehabilitation.

We are also trying to raise $200,000 USD to allow Arthur to receive an important experimental gene therapy, which will be performed by one of the leading American physicians specializing in gene-based neurological treatments.

As parents, we will never stop fighting for our son. But today we humbly acknowledge that we cannot carry this financial burden alone.

We are therefore asking for help from anyone who may wish to support Arthur’s journey.
