@jonesyjen Hey @jonesyjen - I'm literally the #1 voice on using AI to pitch the media & live in NYC - would love to join this week (at least for a HH or something) - can we connect?
to all of my PR friends worried about AI taking their job - let me address the 🌭 in Times Square -
Two important things to take note of:
1 - “AI” alone won’t take your job
2 - if you don’t learn / adopt it, people who do will take your job.
It’s happening already - I can personally attest:
My very small team and I are using our AI tool to provide better client-results than agencies 2-4x our size… at less than half the work.
How do I know?
I’ve talked with those agency owners
You don’t have to go all in on AI, but you better understand what is being built / used today & think critically about how this may impact you in the future 🤷🏼♂️
If you know, you know...

often ignored, in enterprise sales startups need to undergo two layers of product/market fit
Land: PMF with buyer
Expand: PMF with user
most startups never get that $MM expand as they don’t tightly project manage OR spend enough time with team
founders - you should be in office of your biggest clients, at least, once every/every other month to get the insider info and where focus is going (you can get opportunities before rest of market has a chance!)
Am reading about a vicious cycle going on in PR right now (it's probably been going on for a while), here it is:
1. Company seeks out PR firm
2. PR firm sends proposal and *over-promises* knowing they are going up against lots of competition
3. Client vets PR firms & chooses firm who *over-promised*
4. Junior staff members at PR firm stuck pitching low-caliber stories to achieve unrealistic results
5. Junior staff members get angry reporters & nasty responses
6. Junior staff mental health suffers
7. Repeat
Note: I don't think this is indicative of most firms, but appears to be consistently happening... 😞
Thoughts?
A friendly reminder no one else will tell you on here:
Time spent scrolling here is = time not spent:
🤩 enjoying life
✍️ working on building your dream career / life.
That’s it!!
Enjoy the long weekend 🙏
“A junior employee spent 20-40 hours collecting rates from podcast ads”, it gets worse:
This was for a single client.
The client wanted to know how much it would cost to go on or run ads on “the top podcasts” in their niche.
20-40 hours of work, just so a client could peruse the buffet of options.
Thats a $500 - $1000 ask. 💰
AI tools exist that can perform this exact task with less than 30 minutes of time from a public relations professional.
AI is not coming for PR jobs, it’s coming to improve margins & reduce work load
PRCA reported that 1/3 PR folks are diagnosed w/ a mental health condition 😔, but there is hope:
Tools, technology & data are coming to make life a bit more manageable.
🤖 AI that can …
🔍 identify the perfect outlets for any story / angle / press release
📖 research what the journalist likes to talk about & how their style of publishing usually looks
✍️ draft pitches that look and feel like you, but also fit the style of the journalist
📈 track, analyze & optimize media relations
+ so much more
Will this replace jobs?
——> Absolutely not.
Will it make life easier?
