We’re excited to be featured in @PrecedentMag’s piece on how firms weathered the first months of #COVID lockdown. Has there ever been a more chaotic time for employment lawyers? Working parents? How about 2 workplace lawyer moms who’d JUST launched a firm?

We were excited that this year’s #WilsonMoot problem was, in part, about the accommodation of mental health disabilities in the workplace. It’s wonderful to see law students from across the country engaging with these issues.
Thanks to the team at Blakes who make it happen!
We just had our first evening out as a firm of 6!
In case you were wondering who those cartoon people were just out of frame in our holiday card, we were accidentally teasing the arrival of our new Legal Assistant Nick Baboolal and Gaganjot Kaur the firm’s first LPP Student.
Our client has brought a constitutional challenge to a Health Canada directive prohibiting sperm donations from gay and bi men. The directive is a blanket ban that deems all gay and bi men “unsuitable” donors, regardless of individual risk factors and rigorous testing in place.

"The government’s stated objective in using the [notwithstanding] clause is to prevent destabilizing uncertainty for students and families. Creating uncertainty about whether fundamental rights will be protected is also potentially destabilizing." #Bill28#onted#onpoli
Notwithstanding invoked again. Law imposing terms of employment will operate regardless of any violation of rights to free speech, association, peaceful assembly, liberty & equality. Ontarians must be able to rely on consistent protection of their rights. https://t.co/DkpHjdyEKs
We are relieved that the HRTO confirmed that it has concurrent jurisdiction alongside labour arbitrators to deal with #HumanRights issues raised by unionized employees, and excited to read the Weilgosh once it is posted on @CanLII
Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario released its decision in Weilgosh today, finding that it has concurrent jurisdiction alongside labour arbitrators for human rights allegations with respect to unionized employees. Check out my blog post here:
