Today in Canadian parliamentary history - June 3, 1988: The Ottawa Citizen breaks the story that Senator Hazen Argue used Senate resources to advance his wife’s political campaign. He's later charged with fraud, breach of trust and theft.

On this day in Canadian parliamentary history - June 1, 1964: Thousands gather on Parliament Hill in competing rallies on the divisive question of the day - the design of Canada’s flag!
On this day in Canadian parliamentary history - May 31, 1900: According to a press report, the House rejoices at the news of the surrender of Pretoria during the Boer War (I couldn’t find a corresponding Hansard entry).
Coming up this week: the @cpsa_acsp conference! I'll be talking about Senate Public Bill (SPB) data and fun findings about the current Senate % seat share vs the introduced SPB share %!
Speaking of %s, I'll also talk about how 0% of my Tinder dates find SPBs interesting :-(
On this day in Canadian parliamentary history - May 30, 1973: A member moves a motion to celebrate Princess Anne’s engagement… the House rejects it. And would do the same the next day as well.
Thank you Mr Speaker for this funny gift.
Background:
Following the 4am debate marathon a couple of weeks ago, I was chirping EVERYTHING the NDP said during QP the next morning.
Mr Speaker finally had enough after a few warnings and said something to the effect of: “member from Columbia River Revelstoke what’s the matter with you!”
I wrote him this note to apologize immediately thereafter.
Which he thoughtfully made into this cup and gifted to me 😊

Sure, the Canada Day entertainment lineup on Parliament Hill looks good, but they should really bring back the MuchMusic / Electric Circus dance party :-P (picture from 1999)
On this day in Canadian parliamentary history - May 29, 1990: Disruption in the galleries and the removal of protestors as the House votes on abortion; many objects are thrown from the gallery including women's clothing.
