Today I had to tell my 6 year old Black son that he could not open his purchased goldfish in the store bc someone could accuse us of stealing.

He knows some things about racism.. but I realized he’s phasing out of the cute baby face. The bigger he gets, the more at risk he becomes.

I allow my children to ask me why, so he kept asking. I stopped him + I said “ WE. ARE. BLACK. We follow the rules to stay safe.”
