My dispatch for @TelGlobalHealth following a week in Togo to report on the epidemic of road fatalities caused by an uncontrolled motorcycle boom. Replicated across Africa’s rapidly expanding cities, the constant influx of critically injured riders overwhelms Togo’s busy hospitals
Togo’s largest trauma unit is awash with the blood of motorcycle riders.
The patient’s limbs are fractured, scalps gashed and feet twisted. Every day is the same – a relentless production line of injury which the hospital must triage.

New dispatch for @TelGlobalHealth with @SimonTownsley from Guyana, the country with the fastest growing economy in the world after offshore oil wells started production. Yet, the gulf in wealth between those benefiting the boom and the 48% still living in poverty remains stark.
