- The five Hong Kong companies were designated under E.O. 13902 for operating in Iran’s financial sector. Since early 2025, they received dozens of transactions totaling tens of millions of euros and U.S. dollars on behalf of Farab Soroush Afagh Qeshm Company, which manages fund movements for Bank Shahr clients.

Key policy and compliance details:
- OFAC issued two new E.O. 13902 determinations authorizing sanctions against persons operating in Iran’s automotive or rail sectors.
- Designations were imposed under E.O. 13902 and E.O. 13871, the latter targeting Iran’s iron, steel, aluminum, and copper sectors.
- All U.S.-located property and interests in property of designated persons are blocked and reportable to OFAC.
- Entities owned 50% or more, directly or indirectly and individually or in aggregate, by blocked persons are also blocked.
- Foreign financial institutions knowingly facilitating significant transactions for designated persons may face correspondent or payable-through account restrictions and other secondary sanctions.
- OFAC may impose civil penalties on a strict-liability basis; foreign persons also face risk for sanctions evasion or causing U.S. persons to violate sanctions.
- No digital-currency addresses, wind-down licenses, vessels, aircraft, or new FAQs were announced.

Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian Hindu pilot of flydubai flight FZ 1073, heroically saved 174 passengers and prevented a 9/11-style terror attack.

Captain Machchhar sent out two emergency distress calls as his Omani co-pilot stabbed him and tried to crash the plane.

Before collapsing from his wounds, Captain Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door from within, enabling the passengers to subdue the co-pilot/hijacker, and for two other pilots to take control.

Captain Machchhar is now recovering at a Saudi hospital, an Indian colleague tells me.
